Can you give Sirens 3.5 stars. This a pure 5 stars or 1 star song, depending on your personal taste. I can't envision an "eh, it's okay" response.
count me in the 5 star camp now that I have given it enough listens.

I would never give any song five stars after only being out for a week. Five stars come with age.

I think 3.5 feels about right for me. Plus what Ruddo saidliebzz wrote:Can you give Sirens 3.5 stars. This a pure 5 stars or 1 star song, depending on your personal taste. I can't envision an "eh, it's okay" response.

Nice job! I had problems with the quick changes on the pre- chorus. Thankssuper nintendo chalmers wrote:

I think the chorus is actually going to a Dm relative to the capo in the chorus, not F. It does go to the F after the Dm with a quick stop on the Em between for the "I didn't care..." part.
So....
Am- C- G- Dm
Am- C- G - Dm
Dm-Em-F- C - G - Dm x2
I have no guitar in font of me but that is the gist of it. The switch fom the Dm to the F creates a great lift.

Mike "wrote" this song?......some pretty basic chords and strumming pattern there.HoldMyLife wrote:Nice job! I had problems with the quick changes on the pre- chorus. Thankssuper nintendo chalmers wrote:

i don't dislike this song anymore. i think it will find it's place on a pretty diverse album. though, i say that and haven't listened to the leaks yet.
i'm never one to question Jeffs bass decisions but i wonder if he could have made the verses a little more interesting. i think that would have brought it to another level and more into PJ territory as opposed to what it's being lumped with now.

My favorite PJ song since probably Yield. Maybe since Sad. It's grown on me big time. And in concert... I'm already envisioning the whole crowd singing the Ah ha---Oh oh.... ahh ahh... ohh ohhh at the end.... even once the music stops.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
I thought that about the bassline. It is like his Yield basslines which were mostly stripped back and in the pocket. I think it is effective but not his most imaginative part. MYM is also pretty straight ahead. I wonder how much of it is Brendan's fault as listening to RNDM Jeff owns.gardenparty wrote:i don't dislike this song anymore. i think it will find it's place on a pretty diverse album. though, i say that and haven't listened to the leaks yet.

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Imo it's probably BoB telling him to pare it back.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
Can we have a new poll for Sirens?
1.) No such song exists, ever has or ever will
2.) Still sucks
3.) Still just OK
4.) Getting better
5.) Always secretly liked it, I was just trying to fit it
6.) On my way to the office, fist pumping to it in my minivan right now!

Yeah, that whole bit about how "it was a jumbled mess," or whatever, and BoB came in and helped him finish it....that left a bad taste in my mouth. Hell, the guy was in the room for the entirety of the band arrangement rehearsals on Backspacer, so whatever...but it sounds (both in terms of interviews and in terms of the SOUND) like he had a huge amount of sway on this particular song, which he then ran out and told everyone was the best song Pearl Jam had ever written.harmless wrote:Imo it's probably BoB telling him to pare it back.
It's like he's having his own little rock and roll fantasy camp.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
Is today the 7-day mark, or was yesterday? I always wait for that.
It's going to own Triple A, which is a comparatively small pocket but can be a bridge to bigger things. It's already at 26, which is kind of impressive because that's a much slower moving format than, say, rock or top 40. Just Breathe reached #1 on Triple A, for what it's worth. Sirens is also the fastest growing track at rock radio for the last seven days, but that's already slowing down quite a bit. Most of those adds came in the time between Thursday and Sunday for whatever reason. It's currently at 41 on Active, 36 at Alternative, and 38 at Mainstream. Altogether, 749 plays to an audience of 3.4 million.
It's a pretty nondescript opening...no different from most second singles except for the rush to the top at Triple A. It'll probably be week 3 before we can start to guess what the reaction is going to be.

Who said it was a jumbled mess? Mike or BoB?
