Re: Albums of 2021
It's nice to have a new Liz Phair album. Always appreciate new stuff from her. Upon first listen, this one is uneven but I'd say a step up from the last couple of records.

Re: Albums of 2021
A few weeks ago, Constellation Records started a Mixcloud to share mixes that are related to the label in some fashion or another, and one of the couple they have up currently is an episode of Stefan Christoff's monthly set for Radio al Hara, called Spirodon. The set in question was focused on music from Constellation, related artists, or music that shares similar aesthetic and political concerns. Something I latched onto from the mix was a track from Christoff's own project, Anarchist Mountains Trio. Stefan and his brother Jordan Christoff have been making drone and ambient music together for a few years under the name Anarchist Mountains and on this release they're joined by sound artist Joseph Sannicandro to form the trio. Their palette of volume boosted guitar, delicate, swirling synth, field recordings, and electronic interventions and microsamples calls to mind a similar vibe as early '00s Tim Hecker. La terre et la force is the album, released by Bulgarian label Amek Collective on Bandcamp:

Re: Albums of 2021
Kiefer released the mini-album Between Days earlier this year to finish off his "Mason London trilogy." On August 27, he'll be releasing a new full-length album, When There's Love Around, once again on Stone's Throw. Unlike his other albums which were solo with a guest collaborator here and there, the new album is a full-band affair with some of Kiefer's favorite jazz and instrumental hip-hop musicians including DJ Harrison, Andy McCauley, Josh Johnson, Will Logan, and Sam Wilkes among others.
The first single is the title track, a cover interpretation of the song originally recorded by The Crusaders in the early '70s:
The album can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp: https://kiefer.bandcamp.com/album/when- ... ove-around

Re: Albums of 2021
One more new album post: the next new one from Constellation is the third album from baritone sax and electronics composer Jason Sharp, The Turning Centre of a Still World. Sharp continues his electroacoustic explorations by once again layering bass and baritone saxophone with pedal work and synthesizers, this time all performed by Sharp himself as the material was redefined when the original recording sessions were cancelled due to Covid-19. The album is due on August 27, and the first "single" is "Everything is Waiting for You":

Re: Albums of 2021
I've been listening to this album a ton. I'm not sure I've been hit so hard by an ambient jazz album (which I understand kind of undersells what this album is a bit, but I'm painting in broad strokes here) since In a Silent Way. The orchestral section in Movement 6 is just devastating.

Promises is decent. I wasn't blown away, but it's still early days. The composition is obviously paced in such a way deliberately, but I didn't really connect with anything until Sanders opened up on sax in Movements 4-7.

The new Sault record is good. And is it just me or does the new Mountain Goats sounds like a CSN record?

Some new Robert Fripp out recently, I see. Haven't listened yet but it's only a matter of time.
