Decided to watch and rewatch several Norwegian movies. It's obviously a much smaller nation than the US, but there's a few good movies made every year. Of course there have been poor movies and some atrocious acting as well, but the top end I usually enjoy as much as big international movies.

Yesterday I rewatched Hjertestart (Handle with Care). I remember hearing about before its release in 2017, buying the movie, and then enjoying it. But nationally it didn't seem to have much impact. Can't remember a friend or colleague mentioning it.

"After his wife's death, offshore oil worker Kjetil is having a hard time relating to his adopted son Daniel. In an act of desperation, he brings Daniel along to Colombia to search for the boy's biological mother."

Kristoffer Joner does a really good job in the lead, and won best actor of the year at the Amanda's (similar to the Oscar's, but for Norwegian movies).

Still enjoyed it. Maybe it could have used something extra to elevate it, instead it's fairly straightforward from start to finish. Tells a nice simple story.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

The dialogue in this one might be the worst so far but most everything else is a step up. It's a tad low stakes and the action, while gorgeous and impressive, tends to rely too much on destruction porn for my taste.

Han is the standout character. Bow Wow is great in this. Lucas Black is a step up from Paul Walker. He's not totally three dimensional perhaps but we'll say he's up from Paul's one to a two directional character.

I got really pumped at the ending. That hit me harder than I ever would have expected. A genuine surprise.

Still not a great movie but overall better than the previous films. It's leaps and bounds better than 2F2F and, while not as much fun, still better than the first. And the plot is simplified and makes a little more sense. The visuals are great. The action is gripping and well choreographed. Best direction so far.

Fast and Furious.

This movie is great. One of the best action films I've seen in a long time.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

LV also championed normie movies. The only man on the planet who's favorite directors were like, Ingmar Bergman, Todd Haynes, Kelly Reinhardt, Michael Bay, and Zach Snyder.

Anyway I actually don't think it's surprising, Joe had the new Alannis Morissette album pretty high on his rankings last year. My man is well acquainted with normieism.
