Yeah, Girl on the Train isn't a great book. It's breezy and it's a mystery so it fits this conversation. But I don't normally recommend it to folks. I liked it more than I thought I would and that was a pleasant surprise. And I thought the "who done it" was going to be wildly different based on the previews for the movie. I still haven't seen the movie but I saw the previews before reading the book and I was certain based on those ads that it would go differently.

Also, the book was totally free. One of those books on a stoop. So I grabbed it with no cost or commitment. All those factors helped me like it more than I probably should have.

Some of those others I mentioned are awesome, though. I really love Hawley's Before the Fall.

What's the last great mystery/thriller you read?
Road Dogs by Elmore Leonard. Before that one, you know the answer.

I’m really just getting started with him. Of what I’ve read, the ones with Raylan Givens are probably my favorites but I loved the tv show so damn much, I’m biased. Pronto, Riding the Rap, Raylan and Fire in the Hole.

I’ve also read Out of Sight, Road Dogs, the When the Women Come Out to Dance collection and a few of his westerns. Up next is Get Shorty, Be Cool and Rum Punch.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The Mike Hammer stories by Mickey Spillane are great fun. They’re not high-brow whodunnits by any stretch but they’re fun. And probably a palette cleanser for you.

Im also a HUGE fan of the Richard Stark Parker series. While formulaic, I enjoy them immensely.

I'm reading Andy Weir's new book Project Hail Mary. About halfway through. He is a damn enjoyable read.

I don't know if this is better than The Martian, it's certainly very similar, but it's definitely better than Artemis.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?
