Running mountains will drop pounds like whoa
Ive been super obsessed with my heart rate and calories burned on my weight loss journey.

Long hikes - My heart rate averages 130 bpm

Indoor Spin workouts on my bike averages 145 bpm. And these workouts include super hard bursts of energy getting it up to above 170 bpm. Intense workouts!

However, on my run back at the lake my heart rate average was 160! 4 miles. I wasn't sprinting, 8:30 pace. I was just surprised at the level my heart was working on an easy run compared to other exercises I have been pushing myself at.

Long story short: Im thinking i should throw in a few runs per week. was shocked that my heart was working that hard because i felt like it was a breeze.
Now imagine adding in those mountain inclines!

Also, 8:30 is fucking fast as shit, man. Good work.

Up at 6:45 out the door at 7:30. Hot & humid as shit.

Terrible run but I managed 5.75 @ a 9:33 pace, somehow.

Hit a major wall at 2.5 and have no idea how I pushed though. I'm soaked, overheated, tired, and grumpy.

But I'm glad I got out.

Just reconnected with a friend from middle school on Strava. We went through the same track program and I can remember slogging it out through rural Texas cow pastures talking about Silverchair and Toadies during after school practices.

He's doing 25-30 miles a week on a pair of Xero Genesis now. Barefoot sandals. On suburban pavement

Guess he stuck with it after middle school...

I just looked up these running sandals as I’d never heard of such. People actually RUN in these things?!? Uncanny.

The heart rate thing is weird. I'm in decent shape, have been running for years and have a RHR in the low 40s, but 15 minutes into every single run I'm at 150+, and I always finish around 170. Doesn't matter if I'm sprinting or jogging. I've measured it with my watch and a chest strap and it's the same. I've seen some training plans that say say to take your easy runs below 125, but that's basically walking for me.

It's a full-on movement. Barefoot/minimalist running. Benefits include better attention to running form, allegedly less injuries, and overall more natural running experience.

Personally I'm sort of drawn to it myself, even go so far as running a mile or two every couple of weeks in some super thin shoes, but embracing it whole hog is something I'm not ready for. Feels like trail running is where it would be the most fun, and I live a drive away from anything even remotely resembling a trail.

Thanks, man. It's probably dumb but I really do appreciate the support and kudos from y'all. That kind of positive reinforcement and support is the thing I miss most about the Strava app. And posting here. I really do appreciate it.

Honestly, all RMers who suck on RM are awesome on Strava. Even Dev.

I'm glad you're able to use and get something out of the app, Reid. That's awesome.

At least I've still got my Garmin app. B is my friend on that app. He never comments. But to be fair that's probably because I have everything set to private.

Does he run the exact same distance as you the day after you do it?

Update on this guy. He said he actually hasn't run on them in some time. Just forgot to update his gear. Also reviewed the sandals as "different but not terrible."
