Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Most embarrassing moment from the sequels.
I still think the first one is the worst of the lot. The second one is kind of an anti-Star Wars movie, made by someone who clearly hates Star Wars (which I can sort of appreciate). The third is barely a movie. It's just noise.
But the first one was a soulless, cynical, pandering product designed to milk maximum cash from consumerist nerds. Just supremely calculated and devoid of new ideas. Grotesque.
But if I had to only pick one thing that sums up the biggest problem with the sequels, it would be Really Big Death Star.

I think that the only interesting thing about the first movie is Finn, but they abandoned what was interesting about him almost immediately and turned him into comic relief.

This is where I land too.tragabigzanda wrote:Funny, I'd swap what Burt said about one and three. One felt like a not-too-bad start, given their desire to make a ton of money and jumpstart a new era. The only stuff I don't like from TFA is anything with the older characters, but felt the introduction of the new characters was just dandy. They all fell apart to varying degrees as the series wore on though, and the third one felt devoid of anything approaching narrative sense.

Re: Most embarrassing moment from the sequels.
The first one was deeply flawed, but ultimately an entertaining ride in the Star Wars universe, with some fun new characters. The old characters could have been handled better. It gave a great base to build on.
The second one tore it down.
The third one took what the first one did, and turned it up to eleven. One final ride for the Skywalker saga.

You're not wrong about TFA, and I was willing to forgive it if it launched us into new stuff, but since TRoS was just pandering to fans and little else, the whole sequel trilogy went to shit.BurtReynolds wrote:I still think the first one is the worst of the lot. Re: Most embarrassing moment from the sequels.
The pandering to the fans argument really is terrible. One might say that Pearl Jam finally pandered to the fans, when they made Gigaton. Wish they had done that with Lightning Bolt, instead of falling asleep in the studio. Perhaps if TLJ had pandered more to the fans, it had actually been good.

Re: Most embarrassing moment from the sequels.
Saying Rian Johnson hates Star Wars is disingenuous at best. It's my favorite, so I'm biased, but Last Jedi tried some new ideas and approaches to the story and characters instead of treading water and telling the same stories all over again, something sorely needed with this franchise. Look no further than Rise of Skywalker to see what can happen in the wrong hands. As long as Disney looks at Star Wars chiefly as a money-making, "shareholder value" asset (which is clearly what they did with the sequel trilogy and its imposition of a movie every 2 years instead of at least 3), we're at risk for poorly thought-out and executed storytelling designed to sell merch. Rian's not to blame for the effects of Last Jedi on the trilogy -- blame JJ and their overseers for the lack of a trilogy-spanning vision.

when they revealed the name and image of the "Starkiller Base" in TFA. It was a very "Spaceballs" moment and changed my expectations immediately.

I do blame Rian. If the trilogy tanked, he is the main reason.Ensign9 wrote:Saying Rian Johnson hates Star Wars is disingenuous at best.
