There are a couple of albums that I could say this about, depending on my mood. Vitalogy captures that ragged, almost angry, definitely driven sense of the moment for me. When I am there, this is undoubtedly #1. If I want something easily digestible but somehow still full of little nooks and crannies to dig into, Yield is the answer. If I want to live in a contemplative space while still getting jolted around a bit, No Code reigns supreme. They are all desert island albums for me.

that's fair

my other "best of" PJ album is Riot Act, because it represents what I think is the best of their mature output, as opposed to Vitalogy's youth

Agree, but I would also put Binaural in there as well as far as their "mature" albums.

I'm writing a series of blogs about my experience with each record. The Vitalogy essay was so difficult to write but just reinforces how much I love that record. Even off it took a long time to get there, it's their best.

Riot Act is the other PJ record that fights for the #1 spot for me. Both are just spectacular pieces of art.

No, but hopefully I'm more careful on my blog than I am here. Not writing the blog on a phone with swipe should help.

Though, let's be real.. it's me, so I'm sure there are typos.

rock star gets famous and kills himself. i know they are all individual songs and immortality may or may not be about kurt cobain, a rock star who got famous and killed himself.

last exit>stbc>not for you>tremor christ>nothing man

musican's last hope at success blows up, and effects his life and relationships greater than he ever could have imagined. all parts of his life have been changed.

whipping>pry, to>corduroy>bugs>satan's bed

most of the changes are bad. themes of privacy, invasion, freedom, escape, maybe even drugs (bugs?). fame has terrible consequences for this guy, as it had for many other musicians. even musicians who were alive during the writing of the album but have since succumb to fame.

betterman>aye davanita
i know betterman is about EV's life. i think if you follow the narrative this may refer back to the woman in 'nothing man' and maybe 'ma' in last exit. same story just different people.

immortality>hey, foxymophandlemama, that's me
suicide.

i remember reading an interview where eddie vedder pretty much explained the story arch he created with the avocado album. i think he's been doing this the entire time. the first few stories don't end well lol (release, indifference, immortality).
