Trump thread the needle, it seems to me. Some of the credit given to Trump for his 2016 run, which I agree was impressive, is really a result of Hillary being an awful candidate, coming off 8 years of a Dem in power & slower economic growth (and shootings by cops or crazy young men).

I think a lot of people were disappointed that Hope and Change turned out to be Drone Strikes and Mitt Romneys health insurance plan.

Fortunately, Democrats learned their lesson about suppressing their own turnout through legislative complacency and self-sabotage. That’s why they didn’t go on vacation while a national eviction moratorium expired, didn’t waffle on voting rights, and really hardlined climate change response efforts in the infrastructure bill

Chris Hayes had a compelling segment the other night about how backwards things are where the Republican Gov. in VT has done great battling COVID and won't ever be mentioned as a 2024 candidate and then other R Govs (DeSantis & Noem) are twisting themselves in knots to willingly kill their own citizens.
