This has nothing to do with parochialism.
I don't think it's surprising at all, personally.
AC/DC are elemental, primal, minimalist - just great music.

Re: Eddie and Bruce Springsteen are releasing a covers album
There's something very punk rock about that period of the band that i like more for sure.
Guys, im not saying i actively hate ac/dc. Im just saying they are a tad overrated and that has to do with a lot of american meathead men and sports.

I don't think that's AC/DC's fault, though.
I don't love AC/DC because they're Australian, but perhaps being Australian allows me to see them through a different cultural lens.
I'll accept they also had quite a different vibe later on, e.g. in the 80s and 90s, and I'm not very interested in that period.
Anyway, here they are rolling through the streets of Melbourne on the back of a truck:

That's like asking why Robert Smith still persists with the whole big hair and smeared lipstick thing.

I think it's a combination of being aware of audience expectations (i.e. some audience members won't feel like they saw a 'real' AC/DC or Cure show unless they get that visual) - and it also becoming like a uniform/costume after a while, where it's just now part of their whole persona as a performer.Strat wrote:yea and i ask the same thing. Angus gets to jump around wearing that school uniform for two hours and be "Angus Young - guitarist, AC/DC" - then he can leave the stage, throw on a t-shirt and jeans and be 66 year-old Angus Young.
I get it.

Re: Eddie and Bruce Springsteen are releasing a covers album
I didn’t agree with this post (completely) when I saw it, but it got me to listen to a bunch of 70s AC/DC, which I had heard before but I guess never really listened to hard enough. They really did make good, fun records in the 70s and then kind of seem to cash in on a “sound” afterwards. I don’t care about that, and always saw the difference with & without Bon Scott, just never saw how wide that gap was.McParadigm wrote:AC/DC created a really fun sound, and then made good records with it right up until 1981. Then they shat out a lifetime’s worth of albums that had one good song apiece and were otherwise just a string of tired riffs and ejaculation jokes that got sadder with every year.

He's saying you hate on Ed when he does stuff akin to Angus Young wearing a school uniform on stage forever.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm uh... huh?Strat wrote:But you hate when Ed does x, y, z, a, b, c,.....Birds in Hell wrote:I think it's a combination of being aware of audience expectations (i.e. some audience members won't feel like they saw a 'real' AC/DC or Cure show unless they get that visual) - and it also becoming like a uniform/costume after a while, where it's just now part of their whole persona as a performer.Strat wrote:yea and i ask the same thing. For what it's worth, I think both Angus Young and Robert Smith look ridiculous.Leatherhead wrote:He's saying you hate on Ed when he does stuff akin to Angus Young wearing a school uniform on stage forever.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm uh... huh?Strat wrote:But you hate when Ed does x, y, z, a, b, c,.....Birds in Hell wrote:I think it's a combination of being aware of audience expectations (i.e. some audience members won't feel like they saw a 'real' AC/DC or Cure show unless they get that visual) - and it also becoming like a uniform/costume after a while, where it's just now part of their whole persona as a performer.Strat wrote:yea and i ask the same thing. I file AC/DC right next to Led Zepplin. Great guitar band utterly tanked by a high-voiced vocalist who could only think up sex lyrics. AC/DC is the worse of the two in that respect because Plant at least read Lord of the Rings.tragabigzanda wrote:Because the guitar and drum parts are seminal arena rock riffs with very little in the way of bells and whistles, and at least one of their singers has the voice of a god. And their riffs are primal and fairly minimalist yet fun as hell.
I never really bit on the lyrics, but the guitar/drum interplay is fantastic.

and, well, Plant can actually sing. I love me some AC/DC, but Bon, nor Brian (or the very original guy whose name I forgot) are really "vocalist".lvc wrote:I file AC/DC right next to Led Zepplin. Brian's voice is an 'acquired taste' but the man still has (or had) pipes, he's a unique vocalist if nothing else:
