Fuck yeah!Higgs wrote:Yesterday was a pretty rooted day for Australia. Boomers lost to US in the hoops semi's, men's Hockey team lost to Belgium in the gold medal game and Women's soccer lost to US in the bronze medal game. Kinda deflating to be honest.
But then again this also happened:
- Ashley Moloney is a 21 year old decathlete from Oz who was sitting in 3rd spot going into the last event the 1500m, 64 points ahead of 4th place Garret Scantling of the US and only a few more points ahead of 5th place Canadian Pierce Le Page;
- To stay in 3rd he had to finish within 10 seconds of both but was struggling and fading hard with 800m to go;
- His Aussie teammate (and my now personal favourite olympian) Cedric Dubler was not in medal contention and was running well ahead of Moloney but realised he was struggling. In an act of amazing selflessness Dubler dropped back through the pack to run alongside Moloney, pacing him to get to the end, screaming at him the whole way to keep on going.
In the end Dubler got Moloney over the line in a PB and within the 10 second margin that he had available and Moloney held onto the Bronze.
And THAT is what I'm talking about.
I'm tearing up a little here...

Re: Olympics
Molly Seidel's bronze in the women's marathon was only her second time in her life to run that race. First being the Olympic qualifier. That's awesome, and she's my new favorite runner.

Yeah, amazing! St. Paul had a parade for her yesterday. I was asked to be one of the six teachers who walked in the parade to represent her high school. It felt like the entire Hmong community came out for her.knee tunes wrote:How about this?daft twat wrote:Thanks. Just a few hours ago my aforementioned co-worker sent a picture of Suni sitting on a mat with two dozen gymnasts (little kids to teens) in a semicircle facing her. How cool for them. She flies to Auburn tomorrow to begin her college career.
