It sucks here right now. A lot of people were looking to JazzFest as a lifeline after a tough year and a half. Now there's just a whole lot of fear that a lockdown is coming next, which would break a lot of places that are just barely hanging on. The mood is tense and depressed, and it's all very palpable.

What's the point of chipping in with negative news headlines and links constantly? The people that constantly shout about how stupid and pointless my posts are completely ignore that your account is just an aggregator of the most negative shit in the news. Must be a Canadian thing.
You should probably take some more time away from here, and all the noise in general.

I don't even care if people in real life want to line up for the vaccine and recurring boosters. Or if they want to stay home and stay safe (while ordering a multitude of services directly to their door, working from home in their mcmansions). It's this banging drum to conform or be removed from society.

THE VIRUS IS NOW AN ENDEMIC DISEASE. ITS NO LONGER A PANDEMIC. THE VARIANTS WILL CONTINUE FOREVER.

I don't even watch the news anymore. For the most part, I don't encounter covid bullshit in my day to day. I'm coming up on my third wedding anniversary and things are great with my wife. My cat is happy and healthy. Work is fine. Labor day weekend we're heading to Nashville for the weekend and staying at the Omni. It's really weird how people try and insist I'm a miserable bastard here just because I troll a bit and take it upon myself to go against the accepted narrative in what is basically a complete echo chamber.

I think the issue is the continued use of kettle logic to misinform as many people as possible. It works well enough for a significant enough amount of time to really hurt people. Look at the Tabacco play book. Worked the same for climate change. Worked well for the Trump Admin & there many grifts.
I dont understand what you are going for here.
I was saying a similar idea as McP:

The people most distrusting of the science are those being told all sorts of stories (kettle logic) why they shouldn't trust the science. If any one of those stories sticks for an individual then the intent of the storyteller has succeeded. The nuance that you're providing is important/meaningful, but I don't think anyone that didn't already have their mind made up is being persuaded of anything by your point.

Ah, gotcha. Probably my bad for an overly broad rant.

The only thing I took issue with was what I quoted. "No one is going to trust the science..." implies that they would have otherwise, and as I'm saying and McP further explained, many people are not going to trust anything unless they hear it from very specific sources. CNN & people on the network not being among those sources.

Here in the western DC 'burbs we are basically right back where we were last year at this time in terms of positivity and hospital bed usage. Not great given the high level of vaccination.

Top military officials want to vaccinate all forces. Should go over well since military members tend to be mostly conservative

I thought that was a no go until full FDA authorization due to the Anthrax vaccine fiasco.
