Israel is planning on (or already is?) rolling out boosters. Its been known for a while that a significant portion of the population with natural immunity has their antibodies drop off a cliff after 6 months or so. Why would the vaccine be any different?

The powers that be are arguing that the vaccine is insufficient when they push for new restrictions.
The vaccine is highly effective when we want you to take it. Its not good enough when we institute new lockdowns.

Efficacy is declining faster than expected against infection and getting mild symptoms but remains high against severe illness and death. The mRNA vaccines are still the single best thing we have to fight COVID, but they are not magic.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Right, the vaccine’s main job has always been prevention of severe illness or death, which it remains somewhere north of 99% effective there. So verb saying it doesn’t work, or simple saying it might do very little or nothing measurable now, is complete horseshit.
And while effectiveness against infection has dropped, it remains relatively high in the low 80th percentile or so.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Depends on who you ask. Israeli data suggest after 6 months it's in the teens which means for US folx that healthcare workers, nursing home staff, and first responders who were vaccinated in January and February are increasingly vulnerable... as will be teachers right around the time the fall weather kicks in for the northern half of the country. It's important to note here that we have no idea what the actual breakthrough infection rate is because the CDC intentionally stopped tracking that.spike wrote:Right, the vaccine’s main job has always been prevention of severe illness or death, which it remains somewhere north of 99% effective there. What I don't see being discussed much is that the 'back to normal' behavioral changes in the vaccinated... large gatherings (i.e. concerts), indoor dining, etc... are probably making things worse because collectively we don't yet understand what that fall-off in efficacy really means and we are behaving (and the authorities have been communicating) like the immunity you have two weeks after your second shot is the immunity you have forever, when that is not and has never been reality.
Difficult to be sure, but in most places this is what the data says. In places with higher vaccination rates there will be more vaccinated people in the hospital, not necessarily because of vaccine issues or new variants, but because of math. 'Hospitalized and dying' is one stat, but there are plenty of other long term detrimental impacts from COVID people will want to avoid that are not death.E.H. honest question. are you really this thick that you dont understand?
if you are 100% vaccinated you can still catch the virus. however you have like a 90%+ chance of only having very mild to mild symptoms. this does not mean you cant pass it on to someone you have come in contact with. that person may not be vaccinated and that person could also have very mild to mild symptoms or it can be a lot more severe
it would be easier to know who you could be around by each person having a V or a NV stamped on their head to show their vaccination status and know who is more vulnerable
