Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
In the still it looks like the Two Trees of Valinor that's pre First Age. Maybe they got permission to do a little prologue to set up the universe like they did in the LOTR movies? I guess its just a picture it could mean nothing.Malloy wrote:everything i've read seemed explicit that it's just the second agebada wrote:My understanding was it's just the Second Age but after looking at that still I'm not so sure.

To be honest, at first, the work from Amazon did not inspire confidence.Simple Torture wrote:Kiwis gonna be mad:

This is my new favorite post.brycechard wrote:To be honest, at first, the work from Amazon did not inspire confidence. The fact is that because of Amazon's abundant love to push the political context everywhere, I am not very loyal to him. But it turned out much better than I expected. Thank you to Amazon for a great job! I really liked it! You can say that I was even delighted! I was especially pleased with the elaboration of details. It is clear that the work was approached with great love for the franchise.Simple Torture wrote:Kiwis gonna be mad:

This isn’t very encouraging. In fact even corporate speak aside it’s worrying
Amazon on LOTR:
“All systems are go on that show, it looks absolutely incredible... We know our global audience is hungry for elevated fantasy and shows based on beloved IP; we see that with Wheel of Time, and Lord of the Rings will be the centerpiece of our year
As always with a beloved IP, you could get some criticism about not staying exactly true to people’s vision of what the series should look like as it comes to life, we are in touch with the core fans of the novels and we know the majority of them are really excited and happy,
You should expect more of the high quality addictive storytelling that stays true to the original IP but also brings new original ideas and storylines,”
- Jennifer Salke, president of Amazon Studios

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
If he’s talking about having non white actors playing white characters I could care less if he means characters personalities and events change and they feel the need to turn Middle Earth into a proxy for 2022 social issues I’m out. I have no interest in having my expectations subverted.

That statement is from a woman. Not a man.
And I don’t know where you pulled the rest of that from? There were different races of all the people in middle earth just as there is in our own. You’d know that if you’d read the books and appendices.

Sorry I missed the name of the author of the quote. I’ve read the books and the appendices many many times. I thought when SHE was referring to things not matching up with everyone’s visions of what things look like it was about the uproar over the casting which I thought was unfounded.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
My main worry is they turn this into Game of Thrones with tits and fucks or try to score points about modern political or social issues in the context of Middle Earth where that stuff doesn’t necessarily fit.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
I get you now.
No, it’s just looks like we’re being preserved they’ve sexed it up and made irrelevant to now in terms of expectations. So big action sequences etc.
That’s ok if that’s the micro or interpersonal story telling. They have room there *kind of*.
If they stay true to the time line and events of the age and depict them faithfully everything else should be ok.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
I'll be that nerd. Galadriel giving Gimli three strands of her hair was one of the seminal moments in Tolkien's legendarium\history (she told the most powerful elf ever no when he had the same request) and probably one of if not the the most overt methods Tolkien employed to show the strong character of the dwarves and specifically Gimli to make up for some of the anti-Semitic moments in the Hobbit that I personally believe he had deep regrets over and tried in many many instances to undo.

Re: The all inclusive Lord of the Rings thread
Yeah I would have bet for sure it was CGI! Also I saw Prime has it rated as TV14 in the States. That's a very very welcome sign.
