The only good thing right now is that it’s over a year until the midterms, so hopefully Afghanistan will all be forgotten by then just like it has been for the last 10 years

I think this is the only way this could have happened, and frankly this is looking like the best case scenario since it's not particularly violent so far, but it should be worrisome in the extreme that the pentagon and government seemed to believe their own bullshit. They have to know better.

If they decide to turn up to the airport and round those people up who can’t get out, it’ll be a bloodbath. Hopefully not.

From what I gather the airport is protected by thousands of marines. They probably won't fuck with them.

I didn’t mean to sound callous about the situation on the ground, and I agree that the fewer killed the better, but this is one piece of a larger puzzle and it’s gonna be hard to convince countries in Africa to side with us over China now.

Re: The War on Terror /Central Asia/Mid East/Africa thread
I agree, but to fix that is going to require a complete overhaul of how we do things militarily and diplomatically. My hope is that this "nation building" strategy becomes a thing of the past. It is unworkable.Bi_3 wrote:BurtReynolds wrote:I think this is the only way this could have happened, and frankly this is looking like the best case scenario since it's not particularly violent so far, but it should be worrisome in the extreme that the pentagon and government seemed to believe their own bullshit.
