Here is the sad saga of the official "live" vault releases:

The Matrix Tapes are a blast but bootleg quality.

Hollywood Bowl 1968 is very good but has much audio trickery.

The two Los Angeles 1969 shows are very good but low key.

The New York 1970 shows range from decent to excellent. First show is essential.

Boston, Philly and Pittsburgh are not very good at all and probably best avoided.

Detroit has a very strong first half but eventually dissolves into worthless bullshit.

Vancouver is an audience tape.

Isle Of Wight is decent enough but they took ridiculous and unnecessary liberties "editing" the official release.

Thanks for the Live Vault playlist. I really enjoy it.

One of the underrated things about The Doors is Bruce Botnik. The Doors albums and the Multitracked shows 50 years later sound great. He really did a great job capturing the music.

As far as the audio trickery on the Hollywood Bowl, I don't mind it. It actually inspired me to try the same trickery to eliminate the errors in PJ's 1995 Constitution Hall dropouts. Also, I really don't mind the fact that John Sebastion overdubbed his harmonica on the Felt Forum shows. I feel Bruce really put in some effort to make the Bright Midnight and latest live releases from the past decade as authentic as possible.

The LA shows are my favs because they are low key. The rehearsal show is god awful though.

Looking forward to the LA Woman Box that, hopefully, will be announced soon. The Soft Parade Box has some great nuggets on CD2 and CD3.

Yea, I agree with the guitar and drum sampling, this is the one release the dropped the ball on. But, I never play it. It's not a great performance and the since others are so much better, it's just not in my rotation.

This is definitely a band, defined by its front man... as you all have said, when he is on, arguably one of the greatest bands of all time. When he is off... its the biggest train wreck ever.
The best example of this is the European tour of 68. Amsterdam he got wasted, danced on stage through all of Jefferson Airplanes set, passed out (did he O.D. here? I cant remember) leaving Ray to sing the whole set.

5 nights later in Stockholm they play some of the best sets they ever played. BY FAR (IMO) the best versions of Light My Fire. John Densmore is absolutely ON FIRE

and, if Morrison lives another year, and, they get him back from Paris, the talk was they were going to still Jerry Scheff away from Elvis (the bass player from the LA Woman album) and finally tour with a bass man. Can only imagine the life he would have put into some of those songs with his great bass playing. When the Musics Over is pretty much 4 notes on bass for 10+ mins. Light My Fire has so many spots for all sorts of fills during the solos. I love playing 5 to 1 on my bass, and I'm just a hack who plays by ear. Would have loved to hear Jerry walk around that one.

The absence of an official Stockholm 1968 release astounds me.

It was recorded for a stereo radio broadcast, and there were two shows.

It's good stuff albeit tehnically flawed.
