I was happily listening to The Cardigans and then Spotify decided I might like to listen to Keane. So that was a bit shit.

So I heard 'Elegia' by New Order for the first time last night and was completely blown away. I thought this might be the beginnings of my New Order fandom, but the track seems to be an outlier of sorts. The full album, Low-Life (1985), didn't do much for me. So that's a bummer. Still, this song absolutely crushes shit.

I've been infatuated with the Gin Blossoms the last couple of days for some reason. Nostalgia I guess.

Just heard 'M.E.' by Gary Numan for the first time. Having listened to Basement Jaxx a lot over the past 20 years, what the fucking fuck?! Why did nobody tell me 'Where's Your Head At?' sampled this song heavily? I love discovering shit like this, but at the same time I feel like an idiot.

I had better do a full Numan discog. listen.

I’m not a fan of tune-yards, but I find her absolutely talented in that every new song she writes is more annoying than the previous. Amazing skill.

Here's a recent live performance by The Offspring, a band I'm realizing occupies a similar place in my life as Pearl Jam (I used to be very into them, don't listen to them anymore but still weirdly keep track of what they do -- before you get mad about this comparison, I think Pearl Jam is a much better band). They have a new drummer and a new bassist; the original bassist left two years ago and is suing them, and the original drummer left in 2003 and is also suing them. the current drummer was kicked off the tour because he couldn't get vaccinated, so now they have Josh Freese from The Vandals and A Perfect Circle and Devo filling in. He's a great drummer, easily the best who's ever played with them.

Anyway they point of this post isn't to show off how much I still know about The Offspring, but to point out that they now appear to be using vocal tracks from the albums downtuned a half step and completely drowning out the live microphone. I thought it might just be a problem with this livestream, but I looked at another recent performance shot by someone in the audience and it sounds like they're doing it there too.

Imagine the reaction here if Pearl Jam ever did that

Oh thats just really awkward. I swear i saw them do a part acoustic set recently and didnt notice any problems and thoought they sounded decent for their age.

Also, i know way too much about this band lately as well. Josh Freese is incredible. Didn't dexter fly him out like two days before the first show on his own private jet? I guess Freese had played with them before but its kind of incredible Josh Freese can jump in with the bands he does with such little notice.

He was incredible behind the kit for the replacements reunion.
