One really rushed partial listen...Tender Mercies might be the highlight for me.

I wonder why they chose Drive...i love this version, i mean its super faithful to the original...but why Drive? Maybe its something that the movie required?

I've only listened to it once and my first thought was why not just use REMs version? Its not like Into The Wild where all the songs were Ed's...we've already got 3 other people singing on this album. The cover isnt necessarily bad, just feels pointless.

The two biggest songs were not Ed's.
Maybe Cat Power has the best song on this record...

By "Ed's" i meant his vocals/his voice throughout the movie. There was a different approach to this soundtrack with multiple singers so was just questioning why they felt compelled to cover Drive (with essentially the exact same approach) rather than just use the original.

listening now.

on Flag Day. Ed's vocals are a cross between Into the Wild and Comes Then Goes on this one.

edit: I Think of Angels...damn, Cat Power still has it.

Didn’t enjoy that. Not Ed at his best. The Cat Power songs are the best on the album.

Drive a very poor cover.

Tender mercies.

I’ve waited a long Fuckin time to hear them do something together.
This went far past even my lofty expectations.

Love it.

It’s Ed singing it but Flag day is a Glen one. Everything from the melody to the fiddle. Go back to any Swell season stuff and you’ll hear that same shape

Halfway through, this is okay, but I am not sure I will ever listen again through. I actually don’t dislike any of the songs but I can only keep attention on one slow ballad after the next for so long. Into the Wild was fantastic because despite its limitations, it covers a lot of ground sonically, and together the songs feel like they take you on some sort of journey. I am not sure what to make of this yet. Maybe if I am in the mood for some slow slow tunes I’ll revisit more. I Am A Map was impressive though so far, as was Tender Mercies.

Edit: I do like the second half better actually. The Drive cover is really similar to the original. I like it though I would prefer the original by a wide margin (I mean one of my more favorite REM songs). I think Ed’s singing there is good - it’s really the instrumentation underneath it that doesn’t match up. Like the song light. But I’m more on board than the rest of you.

I listened two times...and i really like it. Its very consistent, and there are some highlights here...Tender Mercies being one of them, both Olivia songs and Cat Power.

Very inspired soundtrack.
