I can take or leave everything else, but I love Tender Mercies so much. The tee hees are really hard for me to handle here because it's a choice he's making in the studio. The live tee hees I chalk up to exuberance and wine. These are premeditated.

It’ll be Hansard / Vedder for at least one Oscar Nomination. Just watch. That’ll be brilliant.

Fathers Daughter - Catch song, catch chorus, lazy vocals (in a good way?)
Flag Day - weird first listening cause Ed vocals at first sounded disjointed, but makes more sense now.. and I really like how the textures of other instrumentation are being introduced over the track
I Think of Angels + I Am a Map - Cat Power i love u
Tender Mercies - album highlight
Rather Be Home - I cant even get passed the first humming
As You Did Before - there is nothing new here, but I like the way Glen is singing
There's a Girl - bossa nova, nouvelle vague
I'll Be Waiting - guitar made trying to emulate George Harrison style? I like it... nice chorus vocal melody too
I Will Follow + Dream - ...
Wave - nice tune
Drive - Its ok, but I dont even like the original.. so thats just ok

after 3 listens (full review needs more time. I certainly dont have a coherent take yet) I like it in a way I dont usually go in for with Eddie’s solo stuff (such as there is). Everything is pretty good, but the album is stronger as an album than the sum of its parts (something I would not say about Uke Songs or maybe even Into the Wild). And to my absolute surprise, at this point my three favorite songs are My Father’s Daughter, There’s a Girl, and Wave - not the songs showcasing Eddie.

I get why this group (RM) is focused on Ed and trying to think of this as an Ed solo album or am Ed solo project. But that just isn't the case.

I'm obviously more focused on Ed's contributions here but by no means do i consider this a solo project. If anything he almost feels more like a hired gun here as i question how much of the songwriting is from him. I haven't see the album credits but the songs just feel more like Hansard songs that Ed songs to me.

In the grand explanatory frameworks of RM there are really just 4 options:

1. Pearl Jam Album
2. Pearl Jam side project (Ed solo album, Brad, whatever Jeff is doing, etc)
3. Guest spots
4. Compilation appearance

So within these 4 options (and everything must be 1 of these 4 things) Ed solo album is the only thing that makes sense!

The bottom two are far more appropriate categories.

Insofar as this is anyone's solo project, it's clearly Glen's (feat Eddie Vedder and Cat Power with a special appearance by Olivia Vedder).

Which is not to say that I don't love and appreciate what Ed is doing on this soundtrack. I really love this contributions.

Agreed. I will note, however, that if you go on Spotify and search “Eddie Vedder” your results will yield “Latest Release: Flag Day (Original Soundtrack) (Album)” - don’t blame us, blame the man…man.

Sure. But the same is true for Glen and Cat Power on Spotify.

None of this really matters, of course. People should think of it however they want. It certainly doesn't change the music.

I also petition to call our kind RMurica. We could include punny political catchphrases in each topic. For this one, I propose “Build Back Vedder”. In the Grateful Dead topic, Make RMurica Grate(ful) Again.

I just hope EV doesn't roll out Olivia at Ohana to play this during Encore 1 when instead he could be singing Fatal.

That's probably accurate. However, Ed and Glen do have an equal number of writing credits (8). If someone on a Glen Hansard board wanted to call it a Glen solo album featuring Eddie Vedder I'd allow.

Glen naming a track 'Tender Mercies' is like Eddie naming a track 'Ocean Waves'. ;)
