Would you prefer they went full Australia on you? Just govern the fuck out of you? Is that the path to safety?
I'd take what they're doing over what our leaders aren't doing, yes.

You may want to read the article above. There is a real world chance that if you are in need of urgent care and go to a hospital, you could be turned away.

All because selfish cunts who screamed "FREEDOM" are now clogging up ICUs and taking up resources.

You make it sound like we're living in hell down here in the southern hemisphere - it's really not all that bad, plus I'd rather have this - go outside in a week or two and have life back to normal without worrying if I'm about to pass something potentiall fatal or life changing onto someone
New Zealand is not part of Australia; every Kiwi I’ve ever met has been clear on that. I don’t believe anything your gov is doing even approaches the Orwellian shit being trialed in South Australia.

The naiveté of you still buying into the, “2 weeks 4 safety” mantra is actually pretty charming. Is the plan to just do rolling lockdowns every time there’s a case until the end of time?
Till we have our vaccination numbers up. We were real late rolling out the vaccine, which made sense at the time
Except it's quite clear vaccination numbers aren't going to stop "cases", which is what all the lockdown bullshit seems to be based off of.
Except that in my next post I think - I'd made it clear that it was about not overwhelming the hospitals, which is what they've openly said. Lockdown (except Auckland) is pretty much over from midnight. We might have some more lockdowns down the road, but honestly who cares - it's a minor inconvenience at most for a brief period
You guys enjoy being in the fetal position, I get it.
Sure, whatever....
I do enjoy the whole WFH thing, but during lockdowns it gets a whole lot harder then just WFH. A few weeks of lockdown is going to have a minimal negative effect, unless you're that far up your own arse that putting yourself out for a wee bit is going to screw you up. The economy is still fine - from Sept last year I think we've had maybe 4 -5 weeks of any level of lockdown here. It's really not a big deal
What about the tourist industry? Fuck those people?

The harsh reality is they had a test run of this a year ago - if in that time they haven't figured out ways to weather the storm or diversify, then maybe they don't have a great business model and would have gone under anyway.

I love how some people think that if you aren't living in America you're basically living in the cold war era USSR or something. Like living in New Zealand or Australia is some shitty thing because they have to wear masks and can't have guns. I'll take that any day over driving by strip malls in Moline any day

You accidentally forgot to mention the facial recognition app where they check in on you randomly and you have to prove you’re at home. It’s a minor inconvenience and would really make me feel safer.
