And how can you so confidently throw in the towel on the vaccines when less than 30% worldwide have been inoculated lol.

It's fair to say that the dominants variants have come from nations with low vaccination rates. But so what? Unless we are sealing borders (like stopping the 100k+ people a month crossing the southern border) that won't necessarily matter. Plus, by the time we can vaccinate the 5B unvaxxed folks we will be on double-zeta, meaning the vaccine is gonna be ineffective as target is moving so fast that it's a forever war. It's endemic like the flu, so we should prepare for that.
covid/flu comparison alert!
That's all you could really go after in that paragraph, wasn't it?
He’s missed the point from the top.

Anyway, your infinite mutations will be less and less fatal over time, regardless of vaccine effectiveness. Not good business to kill hosts when you’re a virus.

Why is suggesting utilizing the mindset we have for successfully dealing with another globally endemic virus wrong here?

Yep. Just letting it rip is probably the best plan. I agree.

This virus is more infectious than influenza, and currently more deadly to over 70% of the planet (except for skinny people of course).

That it’s getting more contagious and vaccinated people carry viral loads similar to the unvaccinated is why it is becoming more apparent the presumption we can prevent infection is looking incorrect… so we should prepare for a world where everyone gets infected at some point instead pretending that tying a napkin to your face is the solution.

But that doesn’t stop us from prioritizing the tools we have for the flu:

-Free, yearly vaccines based on predicted common strains available everywhere
-Easy at home testing available
-low cost therapeutic treatment options

Your name is literally dad. You wouldn't have an issue with some government stooge determining when or if you can ever see your son who happens to live in America again?

Spike and his wife probably hate it here and would love to flee to Australia. Not allowed. Sorry plague rat.

Verb out here schticking for a reaction, while spike is genuinely trying to win the argument.

Would you prefer they went full Australia on you? Just govern the fuck out of you? Is that the path to safety?
You make it sound like we're living in hell down here in the southern hemisphere - it's really not all that bad, plus I'd rather have this - go outside in a week or two and have life back to normal without worrying if I'm about to pass something potentiall fatal or life changing onto someone
New Zealand is not part of Australia; every Kiwi I’ve ever met has been clear on that. I don’t believe anything your gov is doing even approaches the Orwellian shit being trialed in South Australia.
Yeah man, it's a living hell down here.

It's been wild seeing a (pretty positive!) local news story totally misreported and take on a life of its own.
Is the video below real or from a late night bit? If real, it's all any outsider really needs to understand the overreaching lunacy of the Australian covid response.

I’m relieved to confirm that Daniel Andrews doesn’t run the country.
I think I'm relieved to hear that. May your chains set lightly upon you.
In case this wasn't clear, I'm relieved too. I think Daniel Andrews is deplorable but this stuff is a kind of political theatre. He does this because it's very popular with (some) voters and it serves a purpose.

Australia is also a big country and COVID management (at least in terms of day to day experience) is generally run by the states, so there is variance in how things are being managed depending on where you live. Think of Andrews like some wacky US governor, if that helps.

Here in South Australia, we've had barely any periods of lockdown during the pandemic. We haven't had a wild case in the community for months. We do have some relatively mild restrictions on social activities but by and large most people are living more or less as they did before.
