Why is suggesting utilizing the mindset we have for successfully dealing with another globally endemic virus wrong here?

This virus is more infectious than influenza, and currently more deadly to over 70% of the planet (except for skinny people of course).

That it’s getting more contagious and vaccinated people carry viral loads similar to the unvaccinated is why it is becoming more apparent the presumption we can prevent infection is looking incorrect… so we should prepare for a world where everyone gets infected at some point instead pretending that tying a napkin to your face is the solution.

But that doesn’t stop us from prioritizing the tools we have for the flu:

-Free, yearly vaccines based on predicted common strains available everywhere
-Easy at home testing available
-low cost therapeutic treatment options

"Slow the spread" was the original and probably best way to look at it, I think. Vaccines are great and will keep you from dying (for now, at least), and masks seem to help slow it down. Both of these things help to keep hospitals able to deal with sick people.

Australia is also a big country and COVID management (at least in terms of day to day experience) is generally run by the states, so there is variance in how things are being managed depending on where you live. Think of Andrews like some wacky US governor, if that helps.

Here in South Australia, we've had barely any periods of lockdown during the pandemic. We haven't had a wild case in the community for months. We do have some relatively mild restrictions on social activities but by and large most people are living more or less as they did before.
