Eddie Vedder - Earthling

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

Its a pretty chill song. Nothing too deep. Not too sure I’ll listen to it too much but its an easy listen.

curious to see if people would like this song if there were no tom petty parallels and it stood on its own.

I'm initially more drawn to this song than any of the "Ed" songs on Flag Day.

But really i'm just excited for a proper solo album....with songs that are longer than 2 minutes! Just weeks ago i honestly didn't even think he had the motivation in him.

Nice little song. It feels very loose and free of some sort of unquantifiable "Ed-ness" to me that is, though far from revolutionary or surprising, really refreshing.

There’s also his connection to Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, which stemmed from a time he was at a crossroads. While Watt is currently prepping his solo rock debut buoyed by the single “Burning Man” with Post Malone, at one point Watt was afraid he’d get stuck in the pop world forever. “I was on tour with Bieber and we were about to play at the Shoreline Ampitheater,” he says of the famed Northern California home of Neil Young’s annual Bridge School Benefit that regularly features Vedder. “I was there four months before that year’s show which was going to take place on my birthday, and bought a guitar that I wanted to give to Vedder since I knew he’d be at the benefit. So I found this woman who worked at the venue and gave her the guitar to give to Eddie with a note that said, ‘The reason why I do music is Pearl Jam. I’m on tour playing for another artist, but I feel your vibes and wanted to give you a guitar as a thank you.’”

Four months later on Watt’s birthday, the night of the benefit, he missed a call from a Seattle number. When he heard the voicemail, it was Vedder wishing him a happy birthday and thanking him for the guitar. “I texted him and said, ‘Thanks for the birthday wish’ and he texted me back with the most meaningful message at a time when I needed it, encouraging me to continue,” says Watt, now finished with his pizza and ready to depart the Bowery’s chic lobby for another night out in New York.

“Eddie said, ‘Music is communication on the grandest scale. When you’re on stage, what you put out there as one person, the audience takes it and pushes it back to you.’”

Fine enough. Hoping that the full album gets more interesting than this, but no so interesting or hinting at unfulfilled promise that I wish a bunch of the songs/ideas had been saved for Pearl Jam.

Not excited that we're getting a song called "The Haves," but, time'll tell.

I'm not sure that hypothetical question can be answered.

well, they have been doing stuff...i mean PJ, so im not worried about that.

Im actually exited Ed is releasing what it is the first actual solo album? because ITW was a soundtrack, Uke Songs was kinda already released and FD is a soundtrack collab.

Im exited.

The producer choice is exciting. Branching out beyond the usual cast of characters.

Im not sure if i would have wanted that...Im exited he seems to move over from the acoustic or him solo in the studio idea. And these players are super cool...Hopefully there are more surprises.

I did wanted music from Ed, Flea and Jackie I.

Nice to hear an Eddie song without Matt C's drumming getting in the way.

If you take away the Petty influence, what's left?

It's fine, kind of like Tom Petty meets The Wallflowers(watered down Tom Petty).
