Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I think its just what Ed wanted to do musically...maybe even the producer too. He recorded the rock album Miley did this year, full of 80s and 70s rock influences and i wouldt think of it as dad´s rock, a term that sounds kinda offensive.
BONE FUCKIN´ TOMAHAWK.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
trag said the song was dad rock, which is a perfectly reasonable comment.
It's derivative, unchallenging and pretty boring. A kind of musical comfort food that fails to satisfy the craving it sets out to feed.
You can throw it on and say 'hey, this sounds like a Tom Petty record' and forget about it moments after its over.

Not sure why he felt compelled to delete the comment though....i actually don't disagree that its derivative and "dad rock".Birds in Hell wrote:trag said the song was dad rock, which is a perfectly reasonable comment.

There's some Auto-Tune going on here.verb_to_trust wrote:His voice sounds weird. Like if you 3D printed his actual voice.

I think an Eddie Vedder solo album with a full band could’ve been great had he made it twenty years ago.

The video release has the lyrics but I'm sure whatever you feel you heard is correct.VinylGuy wrote:I havent seen the lyrics yet, but i kinda know whats about and they seem fine.

I've listened to this song 4 times and forgot about it while it was playing all 4 times.Birds in Hell wrote: You can throw it on and say 'hey, this sounds like a Tom Petty record' and forget about it moments after its over.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
it feels both immediately and comfortably familiar and leaves a pretty minimal impression. It would really have benefited from more lyrics
it is a nice pleasent listen. I enjoy it when its on, but it doesnt linger

Its okay, not very good, not great. I really liked the solo part.
But Im worried that he choosed this as the first single. In Gigaton at least we had DotC and it was one of the best of the album. If this is one of the best, then I think it will not be an outstanding album (like Into The Wild had its impact in 2007). But I wont suffer in antecipation.

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
way too much of a bland chorus
the ending saves it a bit, but he could have cut out at least a minute before getting there

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I will have to buy this on CD to keep my collection complete.
Do newer cars still have CD players? That’s where I listen to most of my music nowadays.

It will have the Into The Wild type songs and then Eddie does an original that sounds like band X. Here's a Devo song, here's a REM song, here's a Tom Petty song. Basically the same stuff he's been doing for 15 years.stip wrote:i wonder if this is the vibe of the whole album or a tom petty genre exercise

So long as it keeps some of his solo shit away from the next PJ album it'll be a win.bada wrote:It will have the Into The Wild type songs and then Eddie does an original that sounds like band X.
