Give me a kid's vaccine and a month for willing parents to vaccinate their kids, and I'm there with you.

What are the ethics involved with insurance companies refusing to pay for COVID treatments for unvaccinated patients?

Absolutely. There's nothing insignificant about it. At the same time the data give us a pretty good understand of the risk profile for various age groups/health conditions, etc., which you would hope could be used to formulate well-designed policies to protect the most vulnerable with only minimal/unavoidable incursions on quality of life for everybody.

Those policies only work to the extent that people follow them, especially when everything has no enforcement mechanism.

If you said everyone over 50 needs a mask, you're going to have a swarm of people 50-70 claiming that they're 49 and refusing to wear a mask, killing themselves and others. So then you end up having to tell everyone to wear a mask, so the Walmart greeter doesn't have to check IDs. And we're all fucked.

You're not wrong, but people are wrong.

This applies to every rule, regulation, and law out there. Don’t harass women on the street. Don’t intimidate voters. Don’t loot a Foot Locker. Dont lie to investors. Don’t set police cars on fire during a protest. No one should be surprised people push back on selective enforcement

Most of those have enforcement mechanisms. Most mask mandates/recommendations have no such thing. The City of Raleigh has an indoor mask mandate. They also have a sports clothing store downtown that literally throws people out for wearing masks. The owner says people will rob him if they come in wearing a mask.

The City of Raleigh was asked what will happen to the store owner on the news, and they literally shrugged.

Isn’t the government paying the insurance companies to cover treatment? Or is that just testing.

You kinda countered your own point there. If a law is passed with no method of enforcement is it really a law? If the enforcement mechanism is not used... does it really exist?

Isn't there like 300% more cases than this time last year when there was no vaccine? Do you honestly think the subsect of parents willing to vaccinate their 5 year olds getting the all clear is the point you can finally jump off the mask train?

I guess it's a policy. A poorly-designed policy. So, I guess my point is, that I don't share 4/5's optimism that anyone can implement a "well-designed policy" regardless of how much data we have.

I'm not certain that Mrs. B will even unmask my children after the eradication of all disease.
