"A risk" and "at risk" have very different connotations. Of course there is "a risk" associated with literally everything in life, including child cases of covid.Peeps wrote: Howre children’s cases going up not a risk?
I'm trying to find data on child deaths real quick but it's tough. The latest number I've seen but didn't find in my two minute Google search just now is about 300 children (under the age of 18) nationwide have died of covid in since March 2020. A British study found the death rate for children (again under age 18) to be 0.000002, or 1 in 500,000. About half of the child deaths had conditions that would label them high risk.
Compare this to other age groups, from today's Washington Post:
85+ = 0.028 or 2.8% (1 in 35)
65-84 = 0.0067 or 0.67% (1 in 150)
40-64 = 0.0013 or 0.13% (1 in 780)
No, the risk isn't zero for children, but I think suggesting they are "at risk" robs that term of any meaning.

as of sept 9, nearly 5.3 million kids have tested positive
that represented 15.5% of all cases (34,198,122)
almost 2% required hospitalization
.27% have died
this is only data from states that are reporting it

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That .27% could be misleading. It's .27% of the positive tests. From that article:Peeps wrote:as of sept 9, nearly 5.3 million kids have tested positive

I'm confused by the lack of a % symbol after the 0.03, seems like it must be a % based on the three numbers immediately before it. But either way these numbers are still in comparison to either covid deaths overall (first stat) or of child cases (second stat), which is to say that neither of these numbers is using the under age 18 population as the denominator so even these low numbers are overstating the risk children face from covid.Among states reporting, children were 0.00%-0.27% of all COVID-19 deaths, and 7 states reported zero child deaths.
In states reporting, 0.00%-0.03 of all child COVID-19 cases resulted in death.

Are you sure that over 14,000 kids (people under 12) have died of Covid in a subset of American states? This is a vastly different death rate than reported elsewhere in the world.Peeps wrote:as of sept 9, nearly 5.3 million kids have tested positive
