Given the established discussion on how great their b-sides have been, I think Adore would have been aided by taking nearly any of a few of the songs and releasing them separately. It’s not a failure in quality, but quantity. A great album of songs in the same mood eventually leads to everything kind of mushing together into one long drag nearly no matter how good that drag is.

If you think what Billy was going through at the time, his mom passing, his divorce ..it makes perfect sense to release Adore as it is.

Its also a very different and challenging album for him and the fans, that why it was seen as a failure back then i guess.

Adore is the easiest album for me to listen all the way through in one sitting. There's a vulnerability in it that is largely missing on the previous albums.

'Blissed and Gone' is easily one of the best songs to emerge from the Adore sessions. 'Saturnine', too. Then there's 'Waiting', 'The Beginning is the End...' and 'Once in a While'.

Hell, I'd have accepted another double album.

'Blissed and Gone' is easily one of the best songs to emerge from the Adore sessions. 'Saturnine', too. Then there's 'Waiting', 'The Beginning is the End...' and 'Once in a While'.

Hell, I'd have accepted another double album.

Yeah, they could have easily put out another 2CD, 14-songs-per-disc album with Adore without losing the thematic consistency or overall quality of the album they eventually released, possibly even netting an improvement overall.

I strongly disliked Adore when it came out and for a long time after, but I have slowly come around to it, one song at a time, over the last ten years or so. I'd probably still call it my least favorite album from their original run (unless you count Machina II), and there are some songs where I have a strong preference for alternative versions to the ones that appeared on the record (like the Puffy remix of "Ava Adore," and the Sao Paolo version of "Dusty and Pistol Pete"), but looking at the whole of those sessions, it's clear it was another period of intense creativity and inspiration for Billy. Dude was an absolute juggernaut during the '90's.

Favorite dark horse track from the Adore era: "Jersey Shore."

I much prefer the studio version of 'Ava Adore'. I think they really nailed the mix.

yeah i love the studio version but the way they played it live, those furious rock and roll version...they nailed it.

Also the re worked live versions of Shame are wonderful.

I've listened to Adore more than any other Pumpkins album, I gravitated toward it the second I heard it and never let up. There is something to be said about that last statement...

So far, I had blamed the co-producer, the drummer, my hometown, of course James and D’arcy, and even Jimmy to a certain extent for putting me in this fucked position… I was losing the ability to just keep chewing up ground without paying any kind of toll… I refuse to really see what I am really doing to myself, the band, and everyone around me…the studio becomes a fortress, where I just shut the door for 12 hours and close the world out…all of this stress, and a rising conflict about where we were now headed, starts to bleed heavily into my relationship with my partner…we start fighting all the time, usually when I come home at night… I am trapped, but I refuse to give up…the very act of making this record (and writing these sad songs) is really one of the most painful experiences of my life…on the other side of me (and the album) was all of the “thems theys”, which turned out to be whoever didn’t understand or agree with what I am trying to do…what I really need is help, not on the album, but for me…I drew the circle around me, and pushed everyone out…

These warring situations alongside the electronic and acoustic elements, it all works for me with the album always going by like a breeze (or a hurricane) as I've never felt it stray on too long.

I have this morning hit up the YouTube and have remedied this oversight. Maybe one or two misfires, but overall - what a great fucking album
