skimmed the nominations and despite the complete over-saturation of tv shows, they make it look like there are only 5 shows

The Emmys learned some lessons from this past Academy Awards; it looks so much better than the Oscars did.

I didn't watch any of The Emmy's. But looking over the winner list this morning and I can't help but feel like I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

There's no rational explanation for I May Destroy You not winning every category in which it was nominated.

at least they gave them an award..but yeah, IMDY is brilliant in a way it transcends the bland political self righteous ways of awards and tv.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I totally understand and sympathize with that. Makes so much sense. And I know my wife had similar feelings. We watched the show very slowly (for us). Usually no more than one episode per week. Sometimes over two or three weeks.

But the craft is so great that I still think it's a must watch. The writing, the directing, the camera work, the lighting, all of it is exceptional. And the empathy and compassion that pours out of this show is unreal. This show examines its topics and themes with a depth, nuance, and lack of judgement that I just don't think I've seen in another tv show.

Much of this can be applied to Mare as well, especially for the genre.

Finished up my rewatch of Mad Men. Great show worthy of "best of" lists. I remember being a little disappointed in the final half of the last season, the last episode in particular, but I liked them a lot more after watching them all at once.

Kiernan Shipka has to be the best child actress ever.

Cutler is a dark horse candidate for my favorite character. Doesn't get much screen time, but he makes it count.

Need to finish Mad Men. I think I stopped shortly after Draper remarried. Maybe 3 or 4 seasons in? How many seasons are we looking at total?

7 total. His relationship with his second wife is a lot more interesting than his first I think.

Draper's slow spiral into being a complete alcoholic monster by the end of season 6 is very well done.
