Low

Post by Tsuga »

If anyone out there is interested in talking about Duluth's finest, Low, I couldn't find another thread on it in this subforum.

I've been a longtime fan, since I was in college in the late 90s when they came touring through a couple times. The campus population was ~400 and the band apparently stayed in someone's dorm room.

Anyhow, I think their latest for Sub Pop, Hey What, is a masterpiece as is Double Negative which preceded it and if any casual/curious or diehard fans wants to talk about these or other favorites, or live shows, or what-have-you, holler at me.

I only know the New album
I liked it a lot
Sometimes I wanna drive around and find you
And act like it's a random thing

That's great! There are elements of what they do on Hey What throughout their career, especially their vocal melodies and restraint, and there are even some precursors to the ultra-damaged production too on the album Drums and Guns for example. Enjoy!

Yeah it's definitely one that lends itself to absorption. The other two BJ Burton-produced albums by them (Ones and Sixes, and Double Negative) are some good context too. To me DN and HW capture the anxiety of the current moment without being too direct or explicit about it lyrically.

Awesome. They also did a great cover of Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" that you can find on iTunes except it shows up under a different artist called Low, so I didn't find out about it for years.
