Re: I Feel Stupid And Contagious / A Nirvana Thread
How many copies of Nevermind must I have? More than I have of Ten?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: I Feel Stupid And Contagious / A Nirvana Thread
If I've got the last reissue of Nevermind, do I need this one?
I guess I'll just buy the 2CD and call it a day.

I wonder if the remix or even remastered those live shows... My guess is they didn'tWendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Ugh. Another typically lazy release from the Nirvana camp. The Super Deluxe reissue of Nevermind features 8 LPs, 5 CDs, the 7", and a Blu-ray featuring Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands, a newly remastered video of a November 25, 1991 concert at Paradiso. Other concert videos available with the 30th anniversary reissues are Live in Del Mar, California (December 28, 1991), Live in Melbourne, Australia for Triple J (February 1, 1991), and Live in Tokyo (February 19, 1992).
That Melbourne performance is horrible. I'm amazed that they would release anything from that show let alone the entire thing.

Nevermind is an album I somehow do not own. It just always seems weirdly expensive when I see it--like $27.99 for a bare-bones sketchy remaster.

What you need is the original CD, which is near perfect, and probably costs $1 used.B wrote:If I've got the last reissue of Nevermind, do I need this one?
The 20th anniversary remaster was complete garbage and they took a lot of shit for it.
Precedent would suggest that this one will be garbage too, unless they've learned their lesson.
They've completely remixed all of the live material used on these releases so far, so it's possible that they at least remixed Del Mar and Melbourne because those were multi-tracked. I think the other two are probably live-to-stereo and not remixable. But who knows.joostone wrote:I wonder if the remix or even remastered those live shows... My guess is they didn't
Regardless, the afore-mentioned remixes were crap and inferior to the old mixes, so it doesn't matter anyway.

Were the Nirvana masters part of that fire?

Randy Aronson wrote:So many things would come to the vault straight from studios and get shelved,” he says. “You know, Nirvana production masters with extra songs no one ever heard. There were Chess boxes that just said, ‘Session.’ Often there was no other info, no metadata. Who knows what was on those tapes? We’ll never know.”

Something was reportedly destroyed in the fire, but they are tight-lipped about what. Krist has flip-flopped on the subject more than once, so who the fuck knows.bodysnatcher wrote:Were the Nirvana masters part of that fire?
I haven't been following the matter, but last I heard, some shitbag judge sided with Universal, so we'll probably never know.
It probably doesn't matter anyway because they've released almost everything that was recorded, and what wasn't released circulates in perfect quality thanks to whoever liberated the "With The Lights Out" reference tapes and mixes.
It would be far more of a tragedy if it was a band that had a vast archive of unreleased material and any interest in properly releasing it.

Why'd he make the baby look so angry.
Anyway, this '92 studio jam rips immensely hard:
As does this killer version of the rarely-played Swap Meet from a few months prior:

It's playing on Liquid Metal. Got a metal vibe to it.

Almost but not quite: it was first performed live at the same venue, but earlier that year.
