Extended episode. Honestly I fast forwarded through the Commonwealth subplot. Lots of walker action in subway tunnel, ending with the apparent introduction to a new enemy group.
The look of the show has a more “shot like a movie” feel. The cinematography is a noticeable step compared to recent seasons. All of the tunnel scenes would have been too dark to see before but they looked great on the tv screen.

Biff Pocoroba wrote:Decent start to the final season. Good zombie sequence to open with two subplots taking up the rest of the episode. One had Princess/Ezekiel/Eugene in the Commonwealth but the much better one dealt with Maggie and Negan as part of a mission team in a subway tunnel with Daryl. Obviously they’re going to rachet as much tension out of that dynamic as they can.
Episode ended with walkers and an almost literal cliff hanger.
Obv Maggie lives but i love Negan being Negan.

The Ravagers hanging all those dead bodies along the road was a nice touch.

Holy fuck, that was straight up Purge type assault just in the intro.

And a priest telling you "God isn't here anymore" ....

Latest bad guys capture Daryl who escapes a death trap and has a sit down with new bad guy leader. Or that’s what I got by watching mostly on fast forward.
I’m blown away by how much the show’s cinematography is better than in passed seasons.

Decent ep. I like the new bad guy. and yes, looks like they're throwing a bit more money at the show for it's final year.

I really like the season so far.

And using the Whisperers techniques to go after Pope, so good.

I liked the first episodes but since then gone back to fast forward to the walkers scenes again, though I will agree with you about Pope.
Mid season finale already tonight, those are usually good. Didn’t they usually do that at Halloween?

Pope’s exit was a surprise; the last big baddie?
Honestly the episode didn’t hold my attention particularly well.
