That's what I keep hearing, as well.EJ wrote:that first clause sounds more like, "I redeemed ya"
This is such a looser recording set than their usual output, though. In spite of the long gestation time and the file sharing approach, Josh did an incredible job of keeping each musician in a performance headspace that was creatively loose and not overthought.
So maybe Ed just bumbled the lyrics in that take for the same reason that it ended up being the best take: he wasn't thinking. Not about how to turn "distance" into "dee-ihstoo-ance" to cover for his pitch corrections, or how to emote each syllable in order to bring the audience in, or whatever. Just shouting along to a rock and roll song that he liked shouting along to. When you're in that space you sometimes get the words a bit mixed up.

At Ohana Encore, LB was the only album that didn't have a song played over the two nights. And only one LB song. I wasn't mad.Strat wrote:McParadigm wrote:That's what I keep hearing, as well.EJ wrote:that first clause sounds more like, "I redeemed ya"

If i would choose songs from that album to stay in the setlists it would be
1 Pendulum
2 Sirens
3 MYM
4 Yellow Moon
Anything else is disposable or maybe treated as a super rarity.

Re: Superblood Wolfmoon
I don't think very highly of "Pendulum" as a song but I thought it was a great set opener, in the spirit of the other slow-burning mood pieces they've used historically to open their sets -- that's easily the song from LB I'd keep. Not only are those kinds of songs great anticipation-builders, but the first time Eddie comes in on any of them, it's a near-physical presense -- you really get a sense of how powerful his voice is, in a way that the bootlegs don't even begin to convey.
The rest of the LB tunes can go.

When they’re on, the song Lightning Bolt sounds good to me live. It needs Ed to not jump all over the place with his voice and the band to jam that outtro with gusto, but when that happens it is good.
Always liked Pendulum to open. MYM I think also sounds good live, as does Let the Records Play (I will always stick up for that song!). That’s about the list.
Sirens should never be played again. Need a different song in that spot - Nothing As It Seems was always preferred for me in the calm things down but in a smoky back room kinda way.

I love MFS, but it's one of the ones they have to downtune live and it just loses something when they do that.tragabigzanda wrote:Another vote for "I redeemed ya"
And another vote for LTRP sticking around in the live sets. I'll also take MFS.

Yeah, I like LB the song a lot, and especially live, but Ed can be sloppy with it.liebzz wrote:When they’re on, the song Lightning Bolt sounds good to me live. It needs Ed to not jump all over the place with his voice and the band to jam that outtro with gusto, but when that happens it is good.
I've been listening to 2013 shows lately and enjoying Swallowed Whole more than I recall.
Wait, this is the SBWM thread.

Re: Superblood Wolfmoon
This is a pretty solid list, really. There are plenty of other LB songs I enjoy but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they only focused on those four in a live setting moving forward. Definitely Pendulum and Yellow Moon.VinylGuy wrote:If i would choose songs from that album to stay in the setlists it would be

It's a weirdass song but I love it too. It just feels awkwardly constructed and maybe kind of unfinished, much in the same way LBC does, to my ears at least.Ms Harmless wrote:I still love Sirens

the awkward construction (if we are thinking of the same thing) is part of its charms. The way the words kind of come out of nowhere and tumble over each other as the singer is spontaneously trying to articulate what the relationship means to himRockPusher wrote:It's a weirdass song but I love it too. I just wish it had a better solo. Mike is a pretty emotional player and it just feels a bit too stagey (although the style of sirens often is)
