"Sirens" has grown on me a lot but I never thought it came off very well live - Eddie forgot the words a lot and the more difficult vocal parts seemed a little out of reach for him. No version I heard ever really felt at home in the setlist.

I do hope they forget about L Bolt. focus on jamming during Quick Escape, Never Destination or 7 O Clock and forget that song.

It's a weirdass song but I love it too. It just feels awkwardly constructed and maybe kind of unfinished, much in the same way LBC does, to my ears at least.
the awkward construction (if we are thinking of the same thing) is part of its charms. The way the words kind of come out of nowhere and tumble over each other as the singer is spontaneously trying to articulate what the relationship means to him

I just wish it had a better solo. Mike is a pretty emotional player and it just feels a bit too stagey (although the style of sirens often is)
agreed, good points Stip

When I hear how good the solos are on Gigaton, I can't help but think that was a way B o'B held the band and Mike specifically back. Quick Escape and Take The Long Way have better solos than anything in recent memory.

Everybody plays with a bit more reckless abandon than usual on this record. Creates a fun energy, and weirdly reminds me a bit of the first record.

They do sound looser on this album. But isn’t Lightning Bolt BoB’s best effort to force Pearl Jam to try to sound like Pearl Jam?

mind your manners has a great kitchen sink solo, and the first solo in lightning bolt is a great classicist moment. but the solos on ligjtning bolt overall disappoint. Sirens and Yellow Moon in particular (yellow moons would work if it was a little less sharp in the mix)

I thought people liked the Swallowed Hole solo. I do. Quite a bit. I know literally nothing about production, sound engineering, etc., but it sounds/feels to me like there's something going on there that I wish was going on throughout the whole album.

its not bad. for a song about escaping into big wide spaces the whole song feels, well, swallowed, and so the solo ends up being more loud than free

Sorry, the point of the question/statement is that I think the production choices underscored the need to sound like Pearl Jam so much that much of this LB album feels like Pearl Jam copying themselves rather than playing free and exploring extra space in their sound. Like they were covering themselves (I.e. Sirens sounding like it was trying to be Black).

To be fair, I don't like anything about that song.

Every time I see Unthought Known on a setlist, I just wish it was Lightning Bolt instead. They're very similar songs to me, except that I prefer LB in every way.

Overall, I agree, I'd just as soon hear more Gigaton stuff played and explored.

Thanks for clarifying. Yeah. Your comment reminds me of Roger Waters' observation that PF post-him was "a reasonable facsimile of Pink Floyd." Thank the heavens for Josh Evans.

Also, I realized the other day that there is not really a love song on Gigaton. Kind of amazing, considering Ed's emphasis on them. Is Superblood Wolfmoon the closest thing to one on this album?

I mean I guess Take the Long Way, though not the way you mean it.

I was thinking about that yesterday. Given the themes, it's almost like the album is questioning whether or not it's deserved, but it's also one of their most political albums and so there's less space for those themes. It leans into the MYM/Infallible side of Lightning Bolt

They're all in the 'of sorts' category, though. We did get more than usual on Backspacer and Lbolt, which is maybe why the lack stands out here
