Minimalism, krautrock, etc

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

But for me, they both tap into similar veins of tension/release through their focus on simple, repetitive melodies and rhythms, and empty space. I think a band like Can is a couple degrees from someone like John Adams, and about a thousand degrees from someone like Pearl Jam.
ha! just notice the original title. i retract my previous statement. on your second point, we agree.

My main man Jesper Eklow (guitarist from the glorious Endless Boogie) has released an soundtrack for "the greatest movie never made" Blood Meridian. It's a chill, sombre listen, "done in the old ways" with JE on "guitar, loops, field recording and tinkery".

Here's the opening track.

I can't even with this song. Those swelling horns get me all hot and bothered.
It's so good!

Music for Mallet Instruments is next on my list to dig into.

I took Steve Reich with me on a run today. I don't think it's coincidence that my pace was even for the majority of it. Great music for zoning out and falling into a cadence. I was stopped by a freight train about a half a mile from my end point. Watching the train pass while the string and woodwind patterns of Eight Lines hummed through my ears was a very nice way to spend a few minutes of my morning.

Yes, agreed. I also listen to some Reich late at night when everyone's gone home and I'm closing the bar books on a night shift. It hits differently in the morning when you're outside and moving. Better than coffee.

I'm only familiar with his debut and his last album, Heavy Sun.
