What movies are you watching?

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Watched Promising Young Woman again. Raz absolutely loved it, and I liked it a lot more this time because:

Upon first viewing, I got the impression that the entire thing was her plan. But this time, I paid much closer attention and realized she actually did like that guy she was dating and it was actually going well, and she was going to begin turning her life around, moving past everything she was stuck on, for which she was ravenous for revenge. But then when she received the video, she broke down in tears and hatched her plan for the bachelor party. This plan, again upon first viewing, I thought turned out exactly as she wanted. But this time, I realized that she did not plan to die, but had an insurance plan for just in case she did, and that's what came to fruition. So, I was like, "why the fuck would she want to die like that? Couldn't she come up with something better?" But again, this wasn't what she wanted to happen, but she was smart enough to plan for it.

Great movie and very fun and entertaining. Will likely be at least a perennial viewing for me.

oh, yeah i thought it was pretty clear. I liked that the main character is a sociopath too...and everyone around her is telling her to stop and once she seems to be over with it, she falls right back to it.

Oh, well, my excuse is my 3 year old was running around like a maniac during most of the movie and I think I missed the part where she was breaking down crying by the trees. And the music was more effective cranked up through the sound bar. It really clicked this time.

I don't think she's a sociopath. I think the movie paints her as the only sane person in an insane world. Evil things happen in the world and she sees that and confronts them directly. Everyone else just turns a blind eye and tries to get her to do the same. She's fooled for a moment into thinking that maybe the world isn't so evil and insane, but then reality comes back and she must confront it once and for all.

Irrationality is not a prerequisite for sociopathy or psychopathy. Her behavior is not conducive to a healthy life.

She feels pleasure, intoxicated with power from repeatedly committing horrible acts against other human beings. Even if they are also bad people, if that's not psychopathy I don't know what is.

yeah i don't know what the clinical definitions are, maybe you're right. What I'm trying to say is that I liked her and don't think she was ever emotionally unstable.

the movies does a great job with making her likeable. Thats one of the reasons i liked it, that her character is a flawed one.
