Gaddercise: Matt, I am constantly influenced and inspired by you, who has inspired you most?
MattCameron: Tony Williams, Keith Moon, Steve Gadd.

jarhead: MATT, I **loved* the way you drummed for PJ on the 98 tour.... I'm just wondering if you are having to relax your style in the studio to fit Pearl Jam's groove, or if you are able to influence the sound with your own drumming style?
MattCameron: yes, it's a different style of playing.

tony_williams: matt, were the band surprised that all of madison square garden wanted to hear "breath"? how long did it take you guys to remember how to play it?
MattCameron: I learned it that night.

nirvana18m : Matt, what was your favorite crowd of last year's tour?
MattCameron: second night of Madison Square Garden.

MattCameron: only the green.

pfeffer: How were you challenged and how did your style change when playing with PJ?
MattCameron: it was a challenge to learn their songs in a short amount of time but it did not effect my style of playing.

A-LEE: MATT I THINK THAT YOUR HI-HAT WORK IS FUCKING TIGHT.
MattCameron: thanks a lot, the high hat is a very important instrument.

WellCon: what was the most influencial band to you growing up?
MattCameron: kiss.

Applebit: What made you start drumming Matt?
MattCameron: Rick Derringer and the Beatles.

spidey: How many teachers you've gone to???
MattCameron: one, John Szanto.

pfeffer: Any musician living or dead, who would you jam with?
MattCameron : Keith Moon.

Rhino665: have you ever had a drum related injury?
MattCameron: right shoulder, rotater cuff.

Drum: How do you write songs? On keyboards? Guitar? Do your songs ever originate from a drum pattern?
MattCameron : first the guitar, then the drums.

MattCameron: no.

Little joe: What do you think about the drummer of THE POLICE?
MattCameron : Stewart Copeland is one of the all time gods.

MattCameron: ...Bonham is the king of rock.

damfool: MATT, U PLAY ODD TIME SIGNATURES SO RELAXED..ANYTHING U DO TO PRACTICE THAT?
MattCameron: I practice odd time signatures with a metronome so as to keep the groove as relaxed and steady as possible.

ChrisCornelljr: Matt, did you ever take any drum lessons or are you self taught?
MattCameron: yes, I took lessons when I was 17 for a year and studied mostly snare drum technique
with John Szanto from the San Diego symphony.

RustyCage: Matt, you are amazing, who are your idols, who made you want to make music
MattCameron: My first musical influence was Jimmy Hendrix and that got the initial spark
going to play music.

dan: please answer me and ill go away MATT HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DID YOU PRACTICE AS A KID?
MattCameron: In my early teens I practiced from anywhere to 2 to 5 hours a day.

Quintboy: WHAT TIME SIGNATURES ARE YOU FAVORITE????
MattCameron: 6/4

metal: Matt did SG make grunge?
MattCameron: We helped create a scene that was later called Grunge so in that case
I guess we had a hand in creating "it".

metal: Matt which groups did you listen as a child?
MattCameron: Lots of Steely Dan.

JelloBiafra: how do you feel about the concept of a giant drum solo?
MattCameron: When done right it can be good but it's very hard to get a drum solo to sound musical.

Christi: how did you end up singing in the movie Killer Tomatoes???
MattCameron: It was a movie that was put together by jpeople that
were living in our neighborhood growing up as a kid and they used people in
the neighborhood to be in the movie.
