Finished Squid Game. The ending is kind of mediocre, especially with the detective storyline

agreed with you on the ending. also...
Spoiler: show
the part with the detective and his brother on the cliff, what the hell was, "you know why" supposed to mean? i kept wondering if i missed some important dialogue prior to that scene. that was weird.

Squid Game;
Spoiler: show
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hunger Games meets Saw meets Hostel.

I read where it was written like 10 years ago but nobody would green light it (see what I did there) until recently.

Loved the reveal where it had been going on for 20+ years and the player archives. That also explained the tunnels and whatnot they were using to extract and sell body organs.

I didn’t like how some games guaranteed half the players would die. All this talk about “equal opportunity” … I mean every player could have technically survived RLGL and Honeycomb. Even the glass steps. But damn Tug Of War and Marbles were so fucked up. So fucked up. Damn.

I don’t think the detective is dead.

Curly-haired chick’s annoying AF voice over was clearly intentional to make you hate her more.

I know they have to make money on this but I really wish it would have ended. Like, the old guy dies on Christmas Eve and they shut it down. All they did with the ending was find a way to set up season 2. Kinda lame.

That said I want to see in season 2 the background on where these red-clad soldiers come from and how they’re recruited into it. They gotta be in their own desperate situations.

And then in the inevitable season 3 we learn more about the host, VIP’s, Front Man etc.

I don't know if it's fair to compare this to Saw or Hostel. There was a lot more to it than just torture porn.

The marble game was an absolute gut punch of emotion. That wouldn't have worked without good writing worked in between the bloody parts.
Spoiler: show
I'm pissed that the old man wanted to play the game, but didn't want the full stakes. He could have died in the tug of war, and there's no way to fake that. He should have been killed just like anyone else.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

That was OK. Nothing particularly special about it, except Gyllenhaal was really good as usual.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

yeah, "timely" to the point of pandering.. there just wasn't enough to it... if I wanted to watch a guy on a phone for 90+ minutes, I'd ... well... I'd probably just not choose to do that... even if it's Daniel Day-Lewis
