Groundhog Day. Somehow not as funny as I remembered it. Pretty corny actually

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I still enjoyed it but it's just much sappier / creepier than I remembered it
I also can't make up my mind about the film's philosophical stance, whether it's optimistic or cynical. It's either "given enough time, man can become the best version of himself and be kind and good and generous," or "given enough time, man can manipulate others into thinking he is kind and good and generous in order to gain from them and/or bask in their admiration"

Re: What movies are you watching?
Says a lot about where Jorge is right now that he’s struggling with it. Maybe it has something to do with his sociopathy?

You guys should watch it again, it's very treacly and even a little disturbing at parts

I get you’re point, I just disagree. It’s a silly fun romantic ride.

It is those things, but I also think it's fun to engage with a film at a level past what the filmmakers intended

Doesn't he achieve the second theory midway through, but still isn't fulfilled?Jorge wrote:I still enjoyed it but it's just much sappier / creepier than I remembered it
