Groundhog Day. Somehow not as funny as I remembered it. Pretty corny actually

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I still enjoyed it but it's just much sappier / creepier than I remembered it

I also can't make up my mind about the film's philosophical stance, whether it's optimistic or cynical. It's either "given enough time, man can become the best version of himself and be kind and good and generous," or "given enough time, man can manipulate others into thinking he is kind and good and generous in order to gain from them and/or bask in their admiration"

It's literally just Scrooge.

Says a lot about where Jorge is right now that he’s struggling with it. Maybe it has something to do with his sociopathy?

What did Phil need in order to reach that realization?

You guys should watch it again, it's very treacly and even a little disturbing at parts

I get you’re point, I just disagree. It’s a silly fun romantic ride.

It is those things, but I also think it's fun to engage with a film at a level past what the filmmakers intended

Doesn't he achieve the second theory midway through, but still isn't fulfilled?

I thought it was about Buddhism.
