I have never compared albums but there are some lyrics on Binaural that are just surreal. I mean, the album came out before Roskilde and then after Roskilde many of the lyrics made so much sense, I thought it was scary, even.

I agree; it's just not so bad that I can't ignore it. It's pretty inconsequential. The next part (bridge?) is great I think.
That and the Lightning Bolt chorus kind of stop the songs in their tracks for me...it's a shame cause I like the other parts of both those songs. They've just done it again and again on their last three records (WWS, Marker, Army Reserve, Just Breathe, and these two new ones) where either the chorus is not good, or more often, the verse and chorus don't transition in any way that's musically cool.

Well, I'd add a lot more to the bad list, if not outright terrible, than you, but that's more a subjective thing.
I'm trying not to listen to any of LB now until it leaks in its entirety or it's released. Been listening to the leaks and singles too much. I need the album in its running order for proper context.

Yield's become my favorite record over time, but if I had to pick, Vitalogy and Binaural would be the two best records lyrically IMO.
My main problem with LTRP is that we waited 4 years for it. It's not the kind of song I look forward to or care to listen to from Pearl Jam. It's a decent song, nice bridge, some nice guitars, but overall, meh. I think almost none of Pearl Jam work can be considered generic, but if there was one, this would be it, if only for how closely it sticks to the blues rock genre. Not my style for PJ.
It's fine though, it will just this albums skipper for me. And it could have been worse.

I don't think people are really over thinking this record. The most popular song so far has been Getaway, which is probably the most straightforward thing we've heard so far. Certainly musically.

Got Some, The Fixer, and Supersonic pretty much have nothing redeemable in the lyric department. I'm not sure I'd point to any song on there besides Johnny Guitar has an example of great lyricism. There are other good songs on there (The End), but they succeed in spite of some lyrical problems, rather than because of their lyrics.

I'd prefer ltrp if they'd have just stuck to the generic dirty blues sound from.the verses. As it is it just sucks all the 'cool' out the song.
I'd consider johnny guitar, speed of sound and the end as good lyrically on backspacer. I hate how SOS sounds on the album, and the end is meh musically though.

The Broadway Show comparison is interesting, because for some reason my comparison of this song not to blues, but to Marc Bolan and T.Rex glam rock, seems to keep getting ignored. If you listen to LTRP alongside glam stuff like "Ride a White Swan" and "We Love to Boogie" it makes a lot more sense than the dirty blues comparisons. Glam rock took inspiration from blues, but then totally camped it up, and that's what this song does, right from the moment the lead character puts on a red dress.
