it's been a long time since I really listened to this song. I forgot about how great the bass is in this.

pearl jam may really only have two slower songs I'd put above this.

OMG!!

I just heard the 1994 Orpheum version.

Such a weird placement of the song! They did it second to last in the encore, right after RVM. Total surprise to have it there but...man....

Hearing Eddie sing it at that time period made me sad. His delicate voice on the chorus is beautiful. he has so much power and beauty at the same time.

And the tempo...they play this song SO SLOW AND PLODDING NOWADAYS.

Im not even kidding...I JUST WENT RIGHT NOW TYPING THIS POST TO SEE IF EDDIE WAS PLAYING GUITAR INSTEAD OF STONE since the song was moving and flowing so well at the beginning

Guess what...he was.

Honestly this one has had problems with being sluggish ever since 1995 apparently, watching this video that shows the evolution.

2006 was good, besides a bad clip choice for that year because I'm positive he could do better than that at that time.

1994 was just the best though. Striking.

I loved this song from age 13 through my late teens/early 20s. Now it is one of the last PJ songs I'm interested in hearing.

I am so sad. It is so special at this time period. Why can he not play it like this? The biggest thing for me is tempo i DESPISE the speed they play it at now.

When I was a wee teen I thought Eddie was a genius for leaving the "self" after "my former..." implied, but still rhyming it with "shelf."

love it. those live takes from '93-'00 are all pretty great.

the early days of the song are some of my favorites because they felt a little slower, a little quieter, a little closer to the album. it takes on a different life around '03, maybe. still good, but not the same for me.

i'm listening to some older versions now.
