Livestream (FREE) from Alabama Theater in Birmingham starting in 3 minutes. Exciting times! It is streaming on Nugs, Facebook, or YouTube.

I’ll try to update the setlist but I might not know everything?

[stage 8:17]
Spring (Among the Living)
Touch Me, I’m Going to Scream Pt. 1
Love, Love, Love
I’m Amazed
Mahgeetah
Regularly Scheduled Programming
Lay Low
Touch Me, I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2
Victory Dance
Evil Urges
Complex
Dancefloors
War Begun
Wonderful The Way I Feel
Climbing The Ladder
Circuital
Feel You
Never in the Real World
One Big Holiday
——————————————-
In Color
Wordless Chorus
Wasted
Off the Record
[end show 10:53]

New songs sound great live! I don’t follow their sets from night to night but it seemed surprising to me that they opened with Spring (Among the Living). Very little interaction with the crowd (hell, I am used to mostly listening to Pearl Jam shows). First half of I’m Amazed was just Jim & Carl and was very stripped down, then the full band played the second half of the song the way you would expect. Great jams throughout though Touch Me Pt. 2 was pretty great. War Begun as always incredible. Forgot how much I enjoy Climbing the Ladder. Encore was really great. I am not sure if it is available on YouTube or whatever after but check it out if you get the chance.

This album is really growing on me. I went from thinking it was their Lightning Bolt to thinking this is up there with the best of their last 4 albums. Well, the first 5 songs and the last 2. 7 great songs is a pretty strong effort from MMJ!

If I could just enjoy Complex!

Maybe listening to the live version might help?

After my first listen, I thought this was MMJ's Lightning Bolt. A retread and a lesser version of what they've done in the past. It will be interesting to see how this album ages, but I believe I was completely mistaken. I am completely loving most of this record. I need to go back and read what some of you have already written about certain songs, but I look forward to hearing more of your takes on each individual song.

I'm not great with rankings, but I'm trying to compare these songs to the rest of their catalogue. I am reluctant to give a 5 this early, but a couple of these songs could get there.

RSP 3.5
Love, Love, Love 4
In Color 4.5
Least Expected 4
Never in the Real World 4.5
Devil's in the Details 4
Lucky to Be Alive 2
Complex 3
Out of Range 3
Penny for Your Thoughts 4.5
I Never Could Get Enough 4

In Color and Never in the Real World are definite 5s for me. At least a couple others come close for me.

In a non-related note, I came to the realization listening to Run Thru from Okonokos that it’s basically a blistering rock Hoe Down.

I was thinking and feeling the same and then that "edge" clicked in for me. I hope it does for you, Strat!

I think Jim James approached this album differently than he did prior albums in that he is much more direct, which is what I think is so very much in common with Uniform Distortion. If you aren’t prepared or ready for that, I could see that being an obstacle.

Penny For Your Thoughts feels like Aluminum Park, First Light and Exile on Main Street had a beautiful baby. This one always turns my day around.

I’m still loving this album. Not everything works for me, but I really love the first 3 songs, and I agree with the love In Color gets here. I also agree with the consensus on Never in the Real World. It may actually be my favorite song of theirs in well over a decade. I dunno, it just landed there for me. And Complex is one I thought I would tire of, but man, still can’t get it out of my head. Nothing against the other songs, they just don’t grab me as much right now, tho Lucky To Be Alive is very enjoyable too, killer second half.

All of this. We have talked about the production, but the sonic quality of this record is phenomenal. It was interesting reading Jim's take on each album and what he revealed about Evil Urges being their first Pro Tools record. That album sounds neutered compared to what they brought out on S/T.

The keyboard, bass, echo, rhythm of Least Expected is stellar and Farmer John, that album closer is perfection. They could just keep on with that one for a few more minutes.

Agreed about the sonic quality. Great sounding album.

I'm also eager to hear live versions. You get the feeling some of these will be amazing live.
