Re: Spoon
Hard to believe this year it's almost been 3 years from Hot Thoughts. With the release over the winter of some rare and unreleased demos and such, I wonder if they're gearing up for a new record in 2020. Anyone heard anything? Would LOVE to hear an album version of this tune that (I think) debuted live after They Want My Soul:

Re: Spoon
there hasn't been anything concrete yet but in a bunch of different interviews over the last year, he said he wants the new album to be a rock record with more guitars so make of that what you will.

The new PJ song is kind of Spoon-y actually.

Re: Spoon
The new album has been announced for Feb 22: Lucifer on the Sofa.
The new single "The Hardest Cut" absolutely SLAPS. I'll be seeing them for the first time at Wilco's Sky Blue Sky festival in January, and honestly they're the band I'm most excited for (I've seen Wilco a bunch and love them, tho). They are one of the very best at blending absolutely tightness and groove with just the right amount of abrasion.
The tracklist is also interesting because the lead-off cut would appear to be a Smog cover, "Held," as they've played that one live in the past (an excellent song from the Knock Knock album). Also on the album is "Satellite" a song they played live regularly around the time of They Want My Soul. From interviews over the past year and a half (they almost had the record finished when the pandemic started and had to delay it, in which time they wrote a ton of new songs (I think they had at least 30) and changed the direction of the LP. Really interested to hear the whole thing and just ordered the LP and CD.

God damn, that shit rips. Love how raw and tinny the guitar solo sounds. It's like you're in parked up their rehearsal space and they're just jamming out unpolished.

Re: Spoon
It's kind of a tailor made song for them. Have you heard them do Paul Simon's "Peace Like a River"? Same is true.dad wrote:I just checked out the Smog cover. I had no idea they'd done it.

Sounds like they minor-keyed this one.
