I really loved this. I knew nothing about Dune going in and now I'm all in. I want to read the book(s?)

I can see why some people might comment on the exposition, but I thought it was mostly well done and I welcomed any little explanation because I was so interested in this world. Loved all the Bene Gesserit stuff.

It did feel a little rushed, which is strange considering it's 2.5 hours. I got the sense that some characters were glossed over a little where they might be a little more fleshed out in the book (that doctor?)

I thought Chalamet was great. Rebecca Ferguson was amazing.

I watched Lynch’s version back in the day. I’ve tried to read the book. The only thing I’ve ever enjoyed related to Dune was the Marvel comic adaptation back when the Lynch movie came out.

They usually do 30 days for the in-theater releases.

Just got home from my second IMAX viewing (saw it opening night). I have watched it twice on HBO Max and re-read the first book over the last week (I think the movie actually covers the first two-thirds of the book; not just half). It gets better each watch. I'm raising my grade from A- to A. A director's cut with 30 more minutes might get it higher.

If I had never read the books but was a lover of Villeneuve (which everyone should be), yes. I'd just want more movie.

As far as specific additions, the Yueh/Jessica and Gurney with baliset scenes should've been kept in and I would have loved the dinner scene (which I'm assuming was not filmed).

Well, that was something.

If that had been my entry point into Dune, I'm not sure I would've been able to get into it.

I liked it as a way to fill in more details and clarify some things. A lot of questions I had after watching the new movie were answered, often very clearly and hilariously so, through those inner monologues. Talk about exposition! The dialogue was almost entirely exposition. It's remarkable.

I did enjoy how weird and silly it was. It was also pretty gross.

Hard to take it seriously, whereas I think the new movie succeeds in taking itself seriously. Things felt significant and important.
