Anders! I was expecting some sort of personal analysis of why you felt the plot was lacking under that spoiler, hahaha

I think Arrival is a stunning and impactful masterpiece. The story is excellent. Equally heady and hearty. Complex and powerfully moving. It's ranks among the best of its genre.

I think the plot holds together, at least. I've never done a rewatch, I'll do one soon

In 3000 years we will be there for them. Too bad we won’t be around to see it.

Right, but the reason the aliens chose this moment in time to contact us is because this is when Amy Adams is alive. In 3,000 years, they will need us to know their language. And Amy Adams is the only linguist genius enough to decipher the language.

Seeing time differently is part of why the plot is silly. Just a cheap way of telling a story.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Even the Chinese angle is really poor. Not going to change my mind about this.

Think Villeneuve does a good job with a poor story though.

It’s the typical cheap sci-fi solution to anything. Oh it was some time-thing. That explains it.

Not sure I’ve ever seen Anders negative about anything. I feel unsure about everything now.

I do try to stay mostly positive, but I am known around here for being critical of The Last Jedi, and as someone who watches quite a lot of movies, there are others as well of course. The misuse of time travel in Star Trek is one of those things.

What are your issues with Star Trek time travel? Put it in the Star Trek thread if you want we need more ST talk.
