Some movies are hilarious the first time you see them when they are new, but many comedies are either only really funny in their decade, or when watching them once. A true classic is timeless.

PS the funniest Monty Python movie is Life Of Brian.

Agreed. I've always found Holy Grail to be overrated.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Good stuff in this thread.

Dumb and Dumber
Blazing Saddles
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Ghostbusters
Airplane!

Nothing else mentioned is as good as those 5.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I'm surprised by how few people have mentioned Dumb and Dumber. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but to me that is absolutely top tier comedy.

I've always loved it, but usually when it comes up in these kind of discussions, people are very dismissive of it.

tragabigzanda wrote:I generally look at early Carrey as being a lot like Jerry Lewis: Transformational at the time, but not very funny today.
This is largely true, but I think Dumb and Dumber is more than just a Jim Carrey movie.

You should maybe give it another watch.
