Why is the HBO Max app so terrible?

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

i actually think Netflix has worse navigating than Hulu. Even though Hulu has a lot of back-and-forth stuff, it does a much better job of aggregating the things I actually want to watch. Netflix's landing page is much more concerned with getting me to watch whatever new shows they're dumping that week, and making me work to find the thing i really want to watch.

I don't disagree. But I'm guessing we use the applications differently.

Yeah, I rarely get to graze and watch new things. At any given time, there's like 1-2 shows I'm making my way through, and 1-2 movies I really intend to watch. At least Hulu keeps those things front and center for me. Netflix is all "Ok you've told us you really want to watch Roma, but have you considered STRANGER THINGS SEASONS 1-4 or A STANDUP SPECIAL FROM A COMEDIAN WE ALREADY KNOW YOU HATE!?"

Netflix always has "Keep Watching" as the first thing that comes up. I have to scroll past a bunch of ads for other shit on Hulu before I get to the "Keep Watching" queue/list/screen.
