I like to have the money spent just on cigarettes while this project was filmed. I could easily take a year or two off work with it.

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
Are they still pushing the "George quit because of the argument with Paul in the film" narrative?
Or do they finally acknowledge that he quit after a fight with John during a lunch break that wasn't caught on tape? I figure they won't even mention it since there is no recorded evidence beyond statements made after the fact.

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
I think the film portrays it less like a single argument and more like a series of marginalizations by Paul and John. That, and Paul keeps criticizing his playing and threatening to bring in Eric Clapton to play his parts. Then when George storms out (before lunch), they actually say they will give him 2 days and call Clapton if he doesn’t come back.

Think that’s a little exaggerated, don’t think Paul comes off as the bad guy at all. John mostly seems a little stoned, but still all there musically.

I mean yea, predominately they seem to be getting along and enjoying working together at the same time while Yoko knits. But when the tension rises, it’s either that or complaining about the makeshift studio.

I think you could watch in the background. It’s pretty cool to see the creative process they engage in, but there’s so many takes that you wouldn’t miss much if you were multitasking.tragabigzanda wrote:You guys are making it very easy for me to skip this

But then, they all decide to go see him the next day to talk him into coming back. Which doesn’t work. And Clapton is still never called. I’ve always wondered what made them so certain Clapton would’ve agreed to join. He was at a point in his career he didn’t want to be in the spotlight, number one, and then to be asked to take the place of his best friend in the band which happens to be the most popular in the world? I mean, stealing your best friend’s wife is one thing but to take his place in The Beatles?liebzz wrote:I think the film portrays it less like a single argument and more like a series of marginalizations by Paul and John. I see it more like a couple of jokes about Clapton. They joked the same way about replacing Ringo.

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
Watching them live through the immediate aftermath of the meeting at George’s in episode two was super fascinating. That whole ‘don’t even know who might show up at all’ feeling, Ringo trying too hard to laugh and McCartney over-analyzing / over-justifying.
I guess I didn’t think they’d let this be honest enough to capture that level of tension and hurt.

No.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Are they still pushing the "George quit because of the argument with Paul in the film" narrative? .
If anything this film is saying that he quit because after we fucking John for several songs, Paul suddenly tells John to stop messing around and let him arrange the song.
Then George just... leaves?

Paul 100% comes off worse than the others in this. So far. I've only watched part one.Anders wrote:Think that’s a little exaggerated, don’t think Paul comes off as the bad guy at all. John mostly seems a little stoned, but still all there musically.

Man, Gimme Some Truth should have been a Beatles song.
Paul and John's voices blended together is one of the Greatest Things in Music.

Day 6 is something special. Everything from Commonwealth to the end of that segment is sexy awesomeness. The way John and Paul look at and play is off each other...

One thing that has surprised me is how many of each of their solo songs were being worked on in this timeframe.Farmer John wrote:Man, Gimme Some Truth should have been a Beatles song.

It’s not quite as bad in the second. They really seemed to have found a common place between all of them and they actually have FUN with each other creating music together.epilogue wrote:Paul 100% comes off worse than the others in this. Once the second episode really gets going, there are some lovely moments. Wish we had something like this from Pearl Jam.

Billy Preston was great in this.wease wrote:Watched part two this morning. It’s amazing how the vibe completely turned around once they got George back in. Then when Billy Preston arrives, it really takes off. I’ve never seen the original film made from this footage so I don’t know if this line is included or not, but it seems to be pretty definitive that Preston is the fifth Beatle.
