Absolutely loving this series....for me at least its best consumed in 30-40 minute doses but its definitely gotten me back on a Beatles kick, or more specifically the last few albums.
What's everyone's thoughts on Let it Be vs. Let it Be...Naked?

Let It Be - overproduced, decimates The Long and Winding RoadThurman Murman wrote:Absolutely loving this series....for me at least its best consumed in 30-40 minute doses but its definitely gotten me back on a Beatles kick, or more specifically the last few albums.

Let It Be Naked - underproduced and feels too raw for a band whose nuances set them apart from everyone else.
I really wish there was a middle ground that sounded right because I love the songs.

Have we gone over the 50th Anniversary release in this thread? If we did I missed it along with the actual release in October.liebzz wrote:Let It Be - overproduced, decimates The Long and Winding RoadThurman Murman wrote:Absolutely loving this series....for me at least its best consumed in 30-40 minute doses but its definitely gotten me back on a Beatles kick, or more specifically the last few albums.

i've never liked the long and winding road as phil spector massacred it. it's so bad.liebzz wrote:Let It Be - overproduced, decimates The Long and Winding RoadThurman Murman wrote:Absolutely loving this series....for me at least its best consumed in 30-40 minute doses but its definitely gotten me back on a Beatles kick, or more specifically the last few albums.

on a bigger scale, however, i've never really been a fan of paul mccartney's ballads in general.

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
From when I was a little kid, Yesterday and Let It Be, have been the first Beatles songs I think of when I hear of the band. And frequently throughout my life, those songs have popped into my day/mind. Even now, knowing more or less the whole catalogue, the full history of the band, I think those two songs are stone cold classics. About as good as it gets.

As a little kid, it was I Wanna Hold Your Hand and All My Loving. I never understood the obsession until my late teens and realized how great the material was…and in many ways the progression informs the early material as well.Anders wrote:From when I was a little kid, Yesterday and Let It Be, have been the first Beatles songs I think of when I hear of the band. I think most of the songs were written during the Let It Be sessions (like one of my favorite Beatles’ songs — She came through the bathroom window) or in the can by the time they got back in the studio a few months later for Abbey Road.spike wrote:wait... was abbey road in the can or not at the time of these sessions? ringo and george are still working out octopus' garden.

Annoying when they identify the album take of a number, then cut it short for more studio horseplay instead of letting it finish.

They started the Abbey Road sessions late February 1969...not even a month after all of this. Crazy!spike wrote:wait... was abbey road in the can or not at the time of these sessions? ringo and george are still working out octopus' garden.

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
I listened to both again the other day and was surprised to find that I like Let It Be more than LIBN. Even though, LIBN has Don't Let Me Down on it, which is my favorite Beatles song.liebzz wrote:Let It Be - overproduced, decimates The Long and Winding RoadThurman Murman wrote:Absolutely loving this series....for me at least its best consumed in 30-40 minute doses but its definitely gotten me back on a Beatles kick, or more specifically the last few albums.

The Long and Winding Road is tough on either but the LIBN version is better. I think Across the Universe on LIBN is maybe better, too. But otherwise, I agree that it's underproduced to a fault and though Let It Be is overproduced at times, I think it works better overall.

the Two of Us from Let It Be Naked is so far superior to the regular LP release.
God I love that song.

i love the deeper bass in the naked version.epilogue wrote:But only just. Both are great. Such a good song.
that song playing at the end of the documentary made me so sad for what would eventually become of the band (and in particular paul and john (and in more particular, john)).

Re: And We Are All Together / The Beatles Thread
I love the original Let It Be and think the claims of "overproduction" are greatly overstated; if we didn't know that Spector's work on the album was a point of contention between McCartney and Lennon, and that McCartney's vision for the album was different than what it ended up becoming, I don't the album as a whole would be singled out for being unduly "overproduced" in a catalog that also contains Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. And I've never understood the hate for "The Long and Winding Road" -- I think it's a lovely song.
