I took part in a Beatles Tourney on the old board only knowing their greatest hits. I never fully listened to an album of theirs. I finally startd this week with "Revolver".

"I'm Only Sleeping" & "I Want to Tell You" are fantastic. I have so much more to discover and i'm excited.
Lucky man.

My advice would be to soak it up, and not to rush through it at today's get-the-whole-discography-in-a-torrent-and-then-listen-to-it-all-in-one-day pace. You only get to discover the Beatles once.
Yeah I'll be on "Revolver" for another couple days. I should have started in chronological order though.

There's no wrong way with this band. I was all over the map when I first got into them.

From Revolver? Woof. Good question. What else have you already heard and what do you like best about Revolver?

I only started with that because apparently it's their transitional album and I'll probably like their later stuff better, but I think i should get some early stuff in there next. So Rubber Soul?

Yep. Rubber Soul. And live with that one for a while. Then if you're feeling like another step back, do Help! Otherwise try the White Album.

Collaboration aside, I didn't know if certain songs were written independently.

There's no real easy cut and dry answer to this.

Lennon/McCartney share writing credits, but wrote a lot independently. The best rule of thumb is: the person singing the song is the primary songwiter.

And that's what I figured, but some joker in the Beatles lore tried to hypothesize that Lennon and Paull swapped songs. But yeah you can tell the difference btween the two. I like Lennon a lot more. Thanks.

I dislike this rule quite a bit. It encourages you to think of songs as one person's or the others, and McCartney was very influential on the final result of a lot of Lennon's 66-67 and Abbey Road songs.

I was really just trying to come up with a simple answer for Orson.
