I mean, no problem if that’s the sound that gets you, and the album is fine and all, but I guess it’s just not for me. Certainly not on any list I would make of top albums this year.

Oh thank goodness. I kept saying as I streamed, “this has to be more than 34 minutes now; when does this end?” And I legitimately kept wondering what in the hell I was missing.epilogue wrote:I couldn't even get all the way through it.liebzz wrote:So I have now twice listened to GLOW ON, the Turnstile album turning everyone’s heads and proclaiming it in their top 5 for 2021. If I wanted to listen to bad nu-metal, I'd go listen to Hyrbid Theory or Iowa or some shit. At least those remind me of being a dumb 12 year old.liebzz wrote:So I have now twice listened to GLOW ON, the Turnstile album turning everyone’s heads and proclaiming it in their top 5 for 2021. Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
It's way punkier than either of those bands, and that's the aspect that kept me coming back after an underwhelming first listen. Eventually I warmed up to it, though I'm not sure I'd call it one of my favorites of the year. I haven't even started making that listliebzz wrote:So I have now twice listened to GLOW ON, the Turnstile album turning everyone’s heads and proclaiming it in their top 5 for 2021. Oh and that Blood Orange song is really good

Michael Nesmith and the First National Band's Magnetic South is the best country-rock album outside of anything from Gram Parsons discography.
The rollicking opener.
The hit.
The epic cover closer.

It's a little concerning how many of you think GLOW ON is a nu metal album. Fair enough it you don't like it, but sheesh.
Still, unpopular opinions are good for content and discussion. The Trag/LV approach.

It’s growing on me. The first three tracks are really good. Then I get bored. But I usually did with this style anyway.

Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
Honestly I got Jim James/Ben Bridwell/James Mercer vibes from the Turnstile singer, though obviously with abilities to cross over into some more abrasive textures that are out of those other guys' ranges. That defied my expectations and ultimately rendered the album more compelling for me -- not because I have a special fondness for those singers or kinds of singers, but because the juxtaposition caught me off-guard in a good way. It's still not really my thing, but I definitely found more to appreciate in it than I expected to.

Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
that said, I'd say Beastie Boys' punk-rap is a better reference point than nu-metal for this band

You forgot "Mama Nantucket".
And the original version of "Some Of Shelly's Blues" is pretty much un-fuck-with-able.

I was hoping to like the live performance more. Perhaps a little more raw.tragabigzanda wrote:I admit I'm not floored by the performance, definitely more of a record band for me.
Just not my style of punk.
