I love TC and he's great in the roles he plays. Really don't care that he's not a showy actor with a broad range

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Probably his biggest stretches are Magnolia and Born On the 4th of July, both of which he’s great in… but his part in Magnolia is perhaps more shocking than impressive, and Born does rely on a good wig, a wheelchair, and Oliver Stone.

He’s great in this, but the verbose, articulate, and passionate delivery of his lines is no different than Ethan Hunt or American Made guy or Jerry Maguire.

Are we defining greatness by someone who is more of a character actor or a guy like tom Cruise who can just steal a scene by his confidence and professionalism?

Can be both, sure. Are you generally drawn to the likes of a Willem Dafoe/Jared leto/Christian Bale or does a guy like Tom Cruise deserve just as much accolades as some of the more eccentric actors who inhabit a role to the detriment of their own well being?
